Bah. I was verrrrry ready to push that button and buy a K-30 and maybe a WR today but now hmm.... don't know.

I'm weighing my options. I only have a few lenses of any (what I would consider) significant value. If I could get 65-70% or so of what I paid for them I'd probably jump to a Nikon. I might anyway.. decisions..

It looks like Pentax, once the most affordable, is now the most expensive if they consider this a sale.

On WHAT planet is PENTAX Imaging living?!

This is absolutely rediculous. Never in a million years would I pay this much for any of those DA* lenses after seeing most of them at HALF these new prices.

At least there is still some good news: all the K-30 kits are in fact $50 cheaper...
Minor niggle.. but, no, actually they technically are not.. They were 846 and 896 plus change for the body and the kit, respectively, up until last night. We can't even get the 3 dollars and change for an extra discount.... so, actually, they are around 47 dollars cheaper.

Amazon still has the best price at 751 and change for the kit... price unchanged from yesterday. I guess they said to heck with Pentax and MAP and are doing their own thing.

I hope Pentax Imaging don't get much sales and realize if they want to stick to MAP then they need to instant rebate by MUCH steeper amounts.

Wow. Pretty screwed up prices. Pentax is taking its customers for a ride it seems. I am so tempted to go with an OM-D now.

Agree'd the OM-D but only problem is max shutterspeed of 1/4000s. Go on Pentax's facebook page and tell them what their problem is exactly. http://www.facebook.com/Pentax

Heck the Sony looks even better right now. Only 799 for a weather-sealed SAL 16-50 f2.8

Amazing luck.

Whoa. Finally sold enough old stuff to cover cost of new Pentax DA* 60-250mm f/4 zoom.

Pulled the trigger and ordered one online at best price I could find, B&H, for $1249.00 w/free shipping, on Thursday, August 30th.

Friday morning, August 31st., see that $100.00 rebate to start next day.

Groan and smack head on missing rebate by one day.

Saturday, August 1st., see that price has jumped to $1999.95, $1899.95 after rebate.

Missing rebate announcement by one day ends up saving me $650.95.

Smile and rub head in disbelief.

Buying lottery ticket tonight.

fliegenfischer

p.s. Amazon still has the lens at pre-rebate price ($1400 something).

Good for you fliegenfischer!

Similar thing happened to me when I bought my DA*60-250 the last week of March this year. Bought it on March 27th, read about the "rumor" of price increases coming April 1st the next day - the price did go up on April 1st by $780!

Well if Black Friday is anything like April Fools day in Pentax land, we can probably expect the prices to go up that day. This seems to be Pentax's marketing plan to halt high end lens sales.......

--a little later--
Head Fred Corporate Suit: EHHHH. Did you people do as I said??
Sales and Marketing Underlings: Yes, Boss!! Prices moved. (not explained which direction)

In a bold move Pentax USA announced today that they have hired Marc Newson's personal publicity men as their marketing consultants. The deal was apparently struck sometime in March 2012 but has only recently come to light as a result of their staggeringly brilliant new marketing campaign. "We plan on doing for Pentax USA what Hoya never achieved." said Moe Howard, one of the three principals of Pentax's new strategy.
No truth was used in the making of this post. Satire is a protected form of speech in the US and many other countries.

I agree with the BS part, but who is to blame?

Is it Pentax USA?
Or B&H and Adorama?

I doubt Pentax Japan is to blame and it seems most likely that Pentax USA is showing off their incompetence once again, but is there anyone with real insights?

Adam? Does B&H comment on the issue? They cannot be happy with appearing to be jerking customers around, can they?

Meanwhile Amazon seems to ignore every stupid price fix (if there ever was one) and getting away with it just fine...
