Anyone know if this would be strong enough for the K-5 with a normal prime?

One of the reviewers said:
"This is an must have clamp-on pod. Have had mine for 25+ years, and used it w/my heavy Konica SLR"

Which is part of why I ordered one.

I tried one of those years ago. Not very high quality. IMHO.

I recommend this combo...which can use your existing tripod head.

Thanks. $43.81 for the two together plus shipping. If the $5 model proves to be too flimsy I may well go your route. Thanks.

If you were in Orlando, I'd find the old one I have and give it to you.

Generous of you, thanks. Mine is on its way and if it turns out to be less than I need I will probably go with your suggestion because the Manfrotto clamp can accept a variety of inserts so it would be useful for an off-camera flash, a reflector, etc. in addition to the camera itself with the insert you pointed out.

It arrived today - you were right. It is adequate to hold and position an off camera flash but not sufficient to hold, safely IMHO, a dSLR + lens. I did find the Manfrotto listed as a package deal for a bit less -

Manfrotto 035RL Super Clamp with 2908 Standard Stud - $27

No problem. I get no ego for being "right", unless you are my husband, and we are arguing.

F.Y.I. - The package deal you have in your link above is for the 1/4-20 stud, not the 3/8-16. If you use just the stud, it's not as good as the "mounting plate" for an existing tripod head.

The Manfrotto part(s) that I recommend with that clamp is...

Amazon.com: Manfrotto 208 3/8-Inch Mounting Plate for Super Clamp: Electronics

or

Amazon.com: Manfrotto 208HEX 3/8-Inch Camera Mounting Platform Adapter (Silver): Electronics

It's too bad you're not in Orlando, as I could easily lend you what you need.

I recommend the 208 vs the 208HEX, but they functionally do the same thing. Although the 208HEX is only designed for the clamp, the 208 can be used in other stand/flash devices. The benefit to the 208HEX is that the recess in the clamp is a hex too, so that it acts to stabilize anything that is screwed into the 208HEX.

I have both the 208 and 208HEX.
