Black K-01 = $449
Posted By: Docrwm, 09-21-2012, 05:41 PM

PENTAX® K-01 Black Digital Camera*|*Quill.com

It is pictured with the 40XS and the description includes it. It's a Body Only price but it appears to include the lens.

We used to deal with Quill all the time at work. We never had any issues. I'm more concerned about the warranty being honored. I also wonder if it would be possible to buy one of those two year extended warranties from BH Photo or Amazon if I bought it from Quill.
I purchased my K5 from Samy's Camera in January, and followed up with the 2 year extended warranty from B&H an hour later.

Also, this family of cameras - I'll refer to them as the K5 class (K5, K-01, K30, K5II and K5IIs) offer a pretty consistent set of capabilities, with some differences. However, at this price - if you are in the market for one of these - this is an excellent opportunity and price.

I ordered one to use while my K-5 is away getting a tune up. This is a great price. I am looking forward to shooting with it. Thanks for the tip.

Quill is owned by Staples.

BTW here is a Quill listing of the Pentax K-01 yellow body for $749.99 :

I went on Pentax's website and did the online authorized reseller finder thing for the K-01 black and white, and this site didn't show up. Looking at my PRIC 2-year warranty card (what an unfortunate acronym by the way...didn't anyone at Ricoh see that?), it explicitly says it must be from an authorized shop.

This is the only thing keeping me from getting in on this deal. I did have my K10D serviced under warranty once (tilted viewfinder) so the warranty is, for better or worse, necessary.

Then again, after figuring in the lens, the camera is only $200~250...so fixing it out of warranty still would be cheaper than the street price from an authorized dealer.

If only Pentax were Nokia

I emailed them last Saturday. Still waiting to confirm if the White K01 has the 40xs included. I know a lot of people ask already. But I just want to be a 100% sure.

and ohh. did anyone else ordered already?

Seriously, I don't believe it.
It's not saying that I donno need a backup camera, but I won't risk a good $450 for an unknown website.
Although an incredible deal.

Okay guys, I was able to get a hold of a Quill.com's product specialist. The awesome lady that I've talked/chatted to/with contacted the vendor and this is what she told me.

Thanks for your patience. I am glad that you contacted us for clarification on this product. The lens is not included with this camera. It is just the body. We are getting that detail updated on the website right away. I am sorry about this confusion and any inconvenience this may have caused.

Either way. I also did my research on Quill.com's reputation as an online store. And found out that they are known to be one of the largest online office supply in the U.S. owned by staples and is recognized as staples' most profitable division. They also have an A+ score on BBB(Better Business Bureau) and They even have their own Facebook page. It is just that we're not familiar with quill because I believe that we don't really shop office supplies...

Good work kaiserz - glad to have some sound clarification!

Just one thing though - what is the relevance of them having their own Facebook page?

Thank you stormtech

Like I said, I did my research on their reputation as an online store. I also checked their facebook page to check if people really do trust them, I won't follow a page that I don't really like, or don't really trust, and seeing that they have a good amount of people who liked their page, I think that contributes to their reputation as a good online store. Same as hiring managers using social media to check if a candidate is going to perform good or will fit a certain position in their company. And what I found on quill's page is great, you can see there that a lot of people (real people not some guy being payed to do reviews) loves quill for their own reasons. There are a few who are kinda disappointed but seeing how Quill.com's employees handle those kind of situations, assures me that they are indeed a good online store. But that's just my opinion. I might be wrong. But I won't hesitate buying from them.

I see now how you used the Facebook page to help make an educated evaluation.

I don't belong to any social networking sites - not my style - so I didn't understand the relevance. Thanks for explaining it to me - very interesting and was a good tool to use in your research.

I just went through the same thing with them and they have confirmed that neither the white nor the black K-01 have a lens with it. They apologized and said they would be updating the description.
