Guess we are all getting these Black Friday announcements, but I love this tripod and I know I paid more for mine and I bought it used.

Wow - great price on a great tripod!

I've had mine now for over a year, and has proven itself to be the perfect tripod for my use many times.

Thanks for this. I had just looked at this one a couple days ago in the used section at Adorama. For 189.00 it also came with a ball head.
Anyway I just purchased this new one for 99.00. Thanks.

How sturdy is it at max height? I'm about 6' tall and in guessing I would need it fully extended.

I'm 6'1" and it is just right with the center column all the way down - that is with a ball head installed. So, very sturdy being the center column is fully retracted.

It is very sturdy with the column down as Stan says. I am not that tall so actually have to sometimes keep the lowest set of legs part way in, as this is a tall tripod.

I've not really used mine with the tube up, but I have used it with the tube clamped sideways and it is plenty solid even in that configuration.

BTW, if you need a case I found this padded one very reasonable and large enough to hold the 055 with Chinese Gimbal head installed.

I guess I just need to add a head to this thing. I'm in need a tripod that isn't a tired hand me down. I was thinking of getting one of the Gorillapod Focus with a ball head, too.

Just be aware this one is aluminum so it is not a lightweight unit, but it is very solid and versatile with the sideways flipping head. This one is needed if you have big lenses.

Highly acclaimed tripod for good reason. I have the older and smaller 190PROB and even that one has served me well with the heaviest of Pentax's gear.

I'm 6'5" and I find it to be very sturdy. I can crank the center section above my eye sight, and it is still sturdy. I have never shot anything at that height, just wanted to see how sturdy it was. Have had mine for about 3 years and I have no complaints other than after hauling it around all day I find myself wishing it was carbon fiber. I think I paid about $185 for the legs + Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head.

Thanks for the link, I just ordered one. Can't believe I have had this tripod for almost 3 years and never bought a case for it.

You'll be glad you did - at 12 bucks it's a no-brainer, and it is solid - they could sell it for more easily.

Thanks. It actually cost me 14 bucks as I threw in $2 for the world food something or other that was on the paypal page, but it was for a good cause.
