If I was sort of starting over and was a manual focuser (neither applies), the Bower/Rokinon 8/14/35/85 would be a pretty good start.

I am not a manual focuser. You don't have to be with this lens. The DOF is so wide that if you step down to f8 and focus around the middle of the ring. everything will be in focus. I took advantage of this deal and have been having some fun with it. I can't wait until WInter is over.

I believe the permanent-hood model will go on sale occasionally until they disappear, as the new model has a detachable hood. I grabbed one for $199 a few weeks ago, so I don't think this will be the last deal.
