The K-01's video is much better than the K5. I love mine for that use. I still use the K5 for stills.

Glad to be of help. I LOVE a good deal and the K-01 at this price certainly qualifies in my book. I was hard on Pentax when it came out because of its price and other issues but at this price its a great deal. Hope you son appreciates his Dad. Happy New Year.

Yes, I know that regardless of color they are all plastic.

But since I'd never use the lens, for the same money
I'd prefer the more conventional black camera body.

Pentax isn't selling them for that - retailers are. They buy from Pentax Imaging for whatever price they sell for and then decide to sell them for whatever they decide (now that MAP is kinda dead YEAH).

This is an absolute steal. I love my current gear, but I just can't resist these cheap K-01's any longer. Especially that catchy yellow color!

I don't think there is a need as long as they sell like hotcakes any time the 40mm kit comes up for under $350 - the groupon for $299 the other day was gone in hours. They must have had a real hard time selling the yellow kits though, this price has been up all day long (Amazon will usually fluctuate at least a couple of times a day).
