DO NOT BUY Pentax 40mm F2.8 from Overstock.com
Posted By: 1812, 01-04-2013, 07:01 AM

REVISED 1-23-2013

Do not buy the Pentax 40mm lens from overstock.com

They have the wrong picture and description.

The overstock.coms lens is the 40mm XS, not the 40mm Limited

By now, I as well as several others have mistakenly bought this lens from overstock and obtained refunds. They originally described the lens as the Pentax Limited in all of there description. Now they have partially changed there description.

Repeat, it is the XS lens, not the limited.

Do not buy unless you want the 40mm XS lens.

Not too concerned, as long as it's K-mount

ONLY 1 LEFT. Would've bought it but it turns out to be $362 to AUS =( Still cheaper than most places, but was hoping it would be a bit cheaper.

Sold out... (that was well below what I paid for mine from Adorama during the Black Friday blowout sales)
overstock.com still shows 1 available.

I believe that is the 40mm XS. The standard kit lens for the K-01 and usually priced lower than the 40 limited.

Thanks for the info Rondec But how can you tell its a different lens? The name is the same and the specs seem the same. I am new to Pentax so i would love to learn. I didn't buy the lens yet.

The out of stock window has a link for other retailers selling the DA 40mm f/2.8 XS. Please keep us informed of what you receive, be it the Ltd, XS, or ceiling fan.

On Crutchfield's website, if you click on the details tab and look at "whats in the box" it says "Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS".

I'm sure that it would take good photos to, it is just not a "limited lens". The "whats in the box also has a link to the owners manual that says that it is the XS model, not the limited model.

The model number for the limited is Pentax 21550.

hopefully you guys get the Limited, there was a recent deal where the lens turned out to be the XS, even when store reps EXPLICITLY stated it was the Limited . Which makes this not too hot if it's the XS, since the K-01 w/ 40mm XS was selling for ~$315.

The pictures of the product are different :P.

Also, the Limited is metal mount and has quick shift. Both features are arguably not too big a deal, since the focus ring is tiny and close to the camera body (making it somewhat more difficult to manipulate), and plastic mounts are proven to be reliable. Although, the Limited is arguably more pretty to look at than the XS.
As stated above, the XS is lighter and a kit lens to get with the K-01 mirrorless.

optically they're supposed to be identical.

Thanks Robert! That is why I am being very very careful before I buy any new lenses . As a former Canon user, I have a LOT to learn about Pentax.

I just bought mine. There were three left in stock. This is going to pair nicely with my brand new K-5 (also bought on discount thanks to this forum). I'm so excited... my first Limited lens!

Hey folks-

I thought they were out but went and checked anyway, and one was left and I snagged it. Maybe I got lucky and one came back in stock. But, whatever, woohoo!
