Lot of FA 50 1.4 auctioned at shopgoodwill.com
Posted By: aseno, 01-10-2013, 01:15 PM

There are lots (3 lots of 3) FA 50 1.4 being auctioned at shopgoodwill.com. One lot is going to close 1/11, now at ~620. Whatever the closing price is, I am glad it went to Goodwill. Kudos to the person who donated these!

For the unfamiliar, goodwill has their own auction site, and sometimes has very interesting Pentax stuff. This possibly a hidden secret few people here know. The closing price usually end up at marketplace price, as the bidders are pretty fierce and competitive. I may going to be frowned upon for telling this secret

It's pretty well known. I stopped bidding a while ago when I started losing everything I bid on to snipers.

My last purchase was a broken PZ-1 with a working FA 28-105 (Power Zoom). Paid less than $60. The listing had the wrong pictures (PZ-10 w/ 28-80).

All three are at that price now. There is also a Takumar 500mm f4 SMC up that is currently at $366.

Stopped bidding there as the prices are even higher than fleabay and the quality is often really suspect.

That's what I don't understand -- you're gambling but prices are often higher than ebay, even on items with a well-established price range. Makes no sense.

I'm thinking it is a different clientele? Maybe people bidding there just don't know what going price is. But I got fed up after losing too many auctions and seeing things go for more than BIN on fleabay. And the few things I did win I was never happy with, at least on fleabay people try to describe correctly and clean things up. I got some real junk there and I don't need the hassle.

I have been tempted a few times, but the prices seem high for dirty and untested equipment. The FA50 1.4 are at least NIB.

I have stopped bidding there too for the same reasons. I've thrown a lot of gear away. I got some great deals 18-24 months ago there on some gear that was in good shape but since then its all been pretty beat up or so over priced that it was strange.

My favorite seller has to be Goodwill of the Fingerlakes, out of Rochester, NY. They list absolute junk and put a reserve price on it. The BIN is always several times what it is worth.

I agree and will add one more issue I've seen too often:

I am not bidding savvy, but I had my share of losing a bid on it. I was lucky to get stuff that was clean and as exactly described. I had better luck hitting their B&M outlets. I remember I found a K28mm/2.0 for only $5 because a it had a dented filter. Bought and took it to a local camera store to get the filter off. The store offered me $$$ for it. Happily declined.

The listing says NIB but if so then why is there a Cokin filter on the one in the picture?

I noticed the Cokin filter, too, but assumed NIB really meant that. Silly me!

Also, I am not 100% sure they have 3 sets of 3. I strongly suspect it is one set of three, over 3 separate auctions, and some winning bidders are going to be very disappointed. Could be wrong, but wouldn't bid over the cost of one.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The text is ambiguous and it would not be the first time I've seen them mess up a listing. And considering the list price is $359.95 for new with warranty...........
