It looks like Adorama has dropped the price of the K-5 to $739:

I am so conflicted -- go for a cheap K-01 now, or save the money for the K-5 upgrade. Get the K-5, or spend roughly double for the K-5IIs. Or continue to play with my K-7 and my Q and stop watching these damnable threads. I guess the salient factors are: I'd like to have a pancake lens (K-01). I want high ISO performance (K-01 or K-5). I like my WR capabilities (K-5). The K-5IIs does take it to another level in terms of sharpness, video capes, AF, battery life, and GPS positioning. Current price points are $350 (K-01 with pancake), $740 (K-5), $1,200 (K-5iis). Oh, and to throw another curve, there's the K-5II bundle with the WR 18-135 weighing in at $1,450, which makes the price of the lens $350. But no such package with the K-5IIs. Argh! Have a vacation coming up in May, so I want my new camera in hand by then. What will it be? Hmmm.....

The only difference between the K-5 IIs and the K-5 is the removal of the AA filter and the improved low-light AF. In terms of video, battery life, and GPS (via the O-GPS 1) they are the same.

Honestly I'd say buy the K-01 kit and the K-5, sell the K-01, and then you've got yourself a K-01 with a slick pancake

You're evil. I was leaning that way anyway, except for the selling the K-01 part. I think I'll wind up selling the K-7 instead. Keep the K-01 for video and for all my old primes that aren't WR anyway. We'll see how it goes once the boxes hit the doorstep.

I debated a k30 vs k5 for awhile before I bought the k30, but at this price, I am willing to get a k5 body only and sell my k-01 body that I bought to get the 40mm pancake lens. Is the color rendition better on a k-5 than a k-30?

Buying a new K5 keeps getting more tempting as its price creeps down and includes the offer of free shipping. Really the only thing holding me back is the darn NYS sales tax I would have to include. That makes it a consideration when purchasing from the NYC photo stores. Another online site not in NY state is on my radar and I'm hoping for a bit more of a price drop.

The K30 and K-5 basically have the same sensor. The difference is there thanks to the K-5's 14-bit raw and slightly better processing, but I'd say most people won't notice it in everyday shooting.

Thanks Adam . I can't like your post, apparently I have disproportionately liked your posts relative to other posters on the forum, but that is a topic that is still being discussed in another thread I believe.

I love my k30, but wanted to make sure I was not missing out on anything in the k-5 before they are all sold out.
