Crazy, it's up to $50k today (+$5k shipping), with 4 days left. I think the exposure by being posted on Petapixel (and picked up everywhere else) with folks weighing in on how much the "headline" units are worth (Rolleiflex 2.8?) has helped this seller immensely.

I don't think so. I think this person has had access to a lot of collections. If you look at the other auctions, there are quite a few 50/1.2 or 1.4 or other fast lenses on individual auctions. Likely some interesting stories into how all this gear was gathered together.

I think people are just bidding like nuts on that one. Some people like to have fun that way. If you look at bid history, there are a lot of bidders with little or no previous feedback. Either that, or they're indeed shills. Unfortunately someone will have to pay the bill.
