Here's a picture I took with my 50-150mm a few weeks ago at a birthday party that my daughter was invited to. It was shot wide open at f/2.8 with lighting from a window to his right. If you click the picture you can view the full size image to see how good the lens is at f/2.8.

That is pretty sharp...great example! Was that completely handled by the AF or did you manually fine tune the focus, also does this lens have a "quick shift" type function as well? From the manual...

"This lens also permits manual focusing even in the autofocus mode. With camera set to the One-Shot AF (AF-S) mode, you can adjust focus manually after the lens autofocus (and stops), while the shutter button is pressed halfway."

... Is this how it works with Pentax, the instructions reference Sigma/Canon/Nikon? Mine is out for delivery now so I am eager to see how things turned out. Incidentally for any considering sending theirs in it might be worth it to to request that Sigma pay for shipping the lens back to them for the firmware update service. It worked for me but YMMV.

That's why I'm a bit skeptical when somebody claims that the Pentax 50-135mm is sharper. Based on my own experience with the 50-150mm, and the examples I've seen from the 50-135mm, I find it hard to believe that the 50-135mm outperforms the 50-150mm in this regard.

Yes, it was AF. I use the center focus point, and in this picture it was on his eye. My lens was calibrated to my camera by Sigma, and the focus accuracy has been great ever since. If I don't get a sharp picture, it's probably because I didn't do something right.

The lens does have "quick shift", but I can't say that I ever use it. I know that some people really like having that feature though.

My lens arrived on Friday via the freight forwarder. Am I the last person to receive this lens? Was sitting at the freight forwarder for a week, while I accumulated more stuff to consolidate shipping.

The lens functions well in Liveview and everyhing looks brand spanking new! Thanks Seventysixers fan for posting the deal, and to Edgar for convincing me to get it. Its every bit as sharp at f2.8 as Edgar states!

We dont pay anything if value is less that 1000 AUD incl shipping. That is a per shipment value, so one can keep getting multiple shipments in a year.

Ya, just have to pay 13% tax. At least it isn't $130 lol

Carried out some testing of the lens in good light. The lens does seems to work fine after the calibration from Sigma, still am having issues near infinity but can live with it as it is primarily going to be used for portraits or wildlife I can get closer to.
I think it is the limitation of the K5 in low light or lack of high contrast in low light which might be the reason for my previously stated issues.
Thanks for all your help and advise everybody.

Ya at first that's what I thought since he's a Canadian citizen. But he said since he is working in the US on a work visa it isn't the same.
