Posted By: seventysixersfan, 03-01-2013, 01:45 PM

WOW!

These won't last long, I'm sure. $499 for the awesome and rare Sigma 50-150 F2.8 EX DC HSM II.
50-150mm F2.8 EX DC HSM II Refurbished | Sigma

Last time it was offered in the Sigma Outlet Store was for $559.

As discussed here in this thread:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-price-watch/195883-refurbished-si...nses-sale.html

And Edgar does an excellent write-up of this lens here:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/lens-sample-photo-archive/196246-sigma-5...es-thread.html
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/128533-sigma-...lots-pics.html

Run, don't walk, to buy this great zoom lens at an amazing price!

Sent mine for firmware/calibration with camera. Be aware of UPS insurance costs $1000/$10. $2000/$20. I didn't check on Fed Ex ground or other carriers. The return procedure is quick, computerized, and explicit in details on the website. The lens is too nice not to have this done to ensure a long, enjoyable life. (If in doubt.)

I expected that Sigma would be sending it with latest firmware but it doesn't seems to be the case.

That's part of what makes me suspect that a lot of these lenses (if not all of them) are actually just old stock, and not refurbished. If they actually went through a refurbishment process, I have to think the firmware would have been updated. But if these lenses were never actually sold or used, then Sigma may not have seen any need to check them. The fact that they look absolutely brand-new and they still have the retail box and all the accessories also makes me think they may be new.

My freight forwarder comgateway.com has received the lens.

You are correct Edgar. The service rep mentioned thar I might have got the lens from the old stock and the firmware might not have been updated. 499 for a new lens is a pretty good deal for this ine

That certainly seems plausible. The one that I received certainly looks brand new, so I'm not complaining about missing the firmware update!

A test shot of my little one at 50mm f2.8. Focussed on the eyes and turned out sharp. No sharpening applied in lightroom.

I know the feeling. I sent my brand-new K-30 along with my Sigma 30mm 1.4, Sigma 10-20mm, Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8, and Sigma 100-300mm f4. It was all insured, and the 30mm and 10-20mm could have been easily replaced, but I would have hated losing the 50-150mm and 100-300mm since they are hard to find now. As long as you packaged it well, I'm sure you'll be fine.

So how does this lens play on a K-01?
Front-heavy and awful is what I'd like to hear, though I doubt it;
the f/2.8 opening probably helps AF a lot compared to a 55-300!

It's never too late to beat oneself up over a missed deal like this

I'll try it on the brick when it gets back from Sigma for updating and calibration.

I might give this a try when I get mine back...my k5 and sigma lens were just delivered to the service department today for update and calibration so depending on the turn around time we'll see. Though it might prove more useful if a lens tripod collar could be used with this lens... at least for me, but not sure if this is possible or worth the effort.

If we just send the lens for firmware update, can't we tune focusing, if needed, ourselves?
