I was just looking at it. The BiN price of 6500 may or may not be too much depending on how much you want one.

I cant tell if it comes with the steel case or if the tripod foot (critical to operation) is still attached though.

Lordy, if they are going for near that much I have a pristine unit that may have to find its way to the PF marketplace so I can go buy a couple new cars, well, new to ME.

"tripod mount is in good shape. no original case. I will include a metal promaster case with foam with the lens."

Cheaper than the 560 :-)

Oh no, nothing to give up...it took a while to figure the best way to use it but now the 600mm end is about perfect for birding. But so much of the value of this lens is its zoom range though and I have little use for anything other than 500-600mm. If I carried it in the field that would be different but this one stays at home and shoots from the deck. I tried making some bird videos thinking that would require the wide end but not so much. Of course, its not like there is anything better available at the moment. The only possible replacement I can imagine would be a faster 600mm prime....but the DOF is such a problem that I would have to shoot at f8 anyway. OH WOE IS ME!!!

No power zoom on this one, I'm also guessing the filter pack is not included. I've never actually used my filters though...

Unlike with the A*400/2.8 where the internal filter had a significant optical impact and was (in my case) required to properly focus, I see no change in the f*250-600 when I remove the filter. So may not matter if its missing the CPL and clear filters.

If my wife would let me I'd sell my New 50-500mm Sigma and grab this... But she wants to go to the Blues Festival next month and drive the northeast coast this fall.

But then instead of squawking about a $7,000 lens people would be squawking about a $10,000 lens.

How true. A slow 560mm prime is no comparison to a 250-600mm zoom in terms of market availability from any manufacturer.

But you would be getting a proven performer, unequaled by any other zoom and comparable to the best primes. That is something to save and to strive to acquire. With Pentax's great ISO performance - what a system for sports, wildlife - we'd see Nikon and Canon users looking to switch.
