That looks like a cracking deal, for a cracking piece of software, for those that don't already have it.

Eggzactly!
This will allow me to put a fresh copy on my new new computer. The Sony software may work, has some bad reviews.

Is this the digital download or do they send you a physical copy?

I ordered this, and I got a UPS tracking number, and no information about downloading.

Intend to sell the sony thing for maybe $20 to sweeten the deal.

But you got an SD card out of it? It always seems I jump on a deal and a better one shows up a few days later. Have to look for the silver lining there's gotta be one somewhere...

Don't feel alone - I had finally decided to purchase Lightroom 2 weeks ago. I checked all the sites I know every morning for those 2 weeks - especially newegg because I've seen LR as a shell shocker before. I pulled the trigger on the same deal as you did from B&H a few days ago. But, I paid $114 plus got the 8gb card (it is a good one - SanDisk Ultra Class 10) which has $10 value, so the net was $104 in my eyes. Not too far off from this one.

So, I don't mean to get off topic as to the deal, but it does pertain to Lightroom. If I already have a full version of Photoshop, what does Lightroom offer that PS doesn't? Worth having both? Does it do the same thing as Bridge?

Thanks

Really short version of the answer:

It's a much less capable editor than Photoshop + Bridge, which can do many more specific and specialized editing tasks than Lightroom can.

But Lightroom is an asset management program and editor. It stores information about all of your photos in a database, so you can rate them, classify them, give them keywords, move them around, and then rapidly apply whatever editing adjustments you want, then publish them to online services, etc.

Lightroom is more tailored toward the workflow you need when working with large collections of photos, rather than making detailed edits to individual works.

Honestly, unless you're interested in special effects, you can probably do nearly all of the editing you need in Lightroom. Exposure adjustments, color adjustments, cropping/rotation, distortion removal, noise reduction, clone/heal for dust spot removal, etc. Lightroom does all of these things, and some of them can even be painted on selectively with a brush. There's just no "drawing" specific features, and no layers.
