Goodwill - Super-Takumar 50mm F1.4 (Early 8-Element Variant) - I think
Posted By: RockvilleBob, 03-22-2013, 08:07 AM

Goodwill has a Takumar 50mm 1.4 which I think is the early 8 element version up for auction shopgoodwill.com - #12762912 - Super-Takumar 1:1.4/50mm Lens w/M42 Screw Mount#4 - 3/27/2013 6:05:00 PM

I am not positive but I think it is the early 8 element version

The average in the lens review section is $87 US with the most recent reviewer (late 2012) paying $75.

Expect to pay over $150 for one in great shape at auction. Some have gone for as high as $225 recently on ebay.

Thank you for the quick response. From what I have seen from one member on the forums the Takumar (they have a 90 2.8) seems to me to be the highest quality for lenses in that price range ($400-$500 new automatic) compared to other lenses reviewed on this forum. I have not done a lot of research on the subject, just what I have observed on the forums. Are my impressions correct?

Nice.

I am on the lookout for one in HK after being inspired by this:

Dod you buy yours in HK or the US? May I also ask how much you paid for it?

There is one on my local Craigslist for $100 with a Spotomatic body. No response to my email yet.

The seller's spam filter is probably filtering out all the craigslist mail...

You can still get lucky with an overlooked auction. Picked up a 7 element 50/1.4 for around 50 recently. Came with camera, case and flash. Camera needed a cleaning which seemed more effort than it was worth, so I just took the flash and lens. Not complaining in the least, and with the limited time I've had to test it out, I'm very pleased.

Good advice @dcshooter. My lens didn't come from a goodwill site but rather a large and well known auction web site - where it is still possible to find the odd sleeper auction that goes for far less than one might expect. I should have made that clearer in my post.

I hadn't thought of that but unfortunately, he didn't post a phone number for texting.
