Great news!
But... Pentax K-01 body is more expensive than with kit lens?

Adam, with all due respect but this store does not cater to all of the 27 (soon 28) member states - it speaks only Spanish and I'd be very surprised if anyone from, say, Germany , the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden or Latvia would ever find a way to order anything in such a webshop.

A webshop that does not care about other languages than its own is simply not interested enough to get customers in other countries nor would customers ever be willing to do business with a store that cannot be contacted for service or questions.

Sorry for being so cynical but would an American order something on a German-language website? Ever?

(PS: the fact that they're bloody expensive also does not help a lot)

Prices for the K5 II (without the "s") run at €949 (Pentax C)

A quick price-scan in the Netherlands shows prices as low as €809: Pentax K-5 II body Zwart - Prijzen - Tweakers
Amazon.co.uk has it for GBP734 ( €864) in the UK
Redcoon.de has it for €864 in Germany

This is not only a very bad start, rest of the EU is similar. This store is not worth the time.

Since the store is based in Spain, the Spanish pricing applies. Authorized retailers can't lower prices at will, unfortunately.

There is no such thing as Spanish pricing, the guide prices are EU based.
And as far as i know there is no minimum price for Pentax like in the USA.

Beside that VAT is higher in the UK and NL so those prices should be higher...

I understand thàt, Adam - I just do not understand why you find it necessary to act as if this store is a godsend for Pentaxians in all EU countries "To all EU members: our friends at pentaxeros.com have now opened a Pentax web store that can ship to any country within the EU.". The store is not accessible to anyone outside of Spain due to a language issue, it shows no shipping rates outside of Spain and it obviously has crummy pricing which nobody would fall for.

So what's going on here? I support this site and I expect it to keep up a semblance of neutrality and even-handedness.

In this case, there is. There are lots more rules that you'd expect, actually, and they all vary based on your distributor (if there's no official Pentax office in the given country).

From what I know the web site has been translated into multiple languages, though I haven't been able to find the links. I know the owner of this store am recommending it because it's a trustworthy source and as far as I know, there aren't very many web stores in the EU that ship to so many countries. Are you based in the EU? The mentality wrt/pricing is much different over there than it is in the US.

That, quite simply, is pure nonsense and entirely untrue. There are no internal borders to trade as far back as 1993 and stores like Amazon and even smaller parties derive 80% of their revenue from customers in other member states than the one they are located in. Cross border trade is the standard rather than the exception.

I am based in the EU, born and bred, and lived in several countries. Although pricing definitely IS different than in the US (with VAT and so) any pricing arrangements made by market parties would very quickly be torn to bits by our Brussels-based competition authority. On top of being Dutch, I'm also a trade compliance specialist by profession (since the eighties) so please, Adam, your assumptions are absolutely based on quicksand.

The fact that you know the owner is great but I'm sorry to see what amounts to an advertorial on these pages without so much as a warning.

If you don't like this store, move on. Just because a deal is posted in this forum doesn't mean it's necessarily going to be the best one for where you live.

I live in the EU. I have bought Pentax gear online in the UK, Portugal, the UK, Italy, Austria, Latvia and Germany. What exactly do you mean by "doesn't mean it's necessarily going to be the best one for where you live"? If you recommend this store for all EU members (quoting your thread title) it should not matter where I live as long as it is in the EU.

Truth of the matter is that this store is actually not "a great new store" for your EU members - far from it, it turns out to be one of the most overpriced stores on the continent lacking internationalization or easy access to shipping conditions across the continent. Want European webstores? Let the shop owner take an example of Pixmania.com - the French EU superstore. Not the cheapest either, admittedly, but accessible in all countries it does business in,

Well, if you want to argue, then your godly store doesn't even have the K-5 IIs.

BTW, I'm sick and tired of stores showing cameras with the WR lens and saying that it's a DA L kit, or vice-versa. I thought it was only a US problem, but pixmania has bad thumbnails too. Pentax really needs to start informing their retailers better...

Oh, youŕe absolutely right and I wouldn't say Pixmania is anywhere near "godly" - haven't bought there for ages due to their higher than normal prices but brought it up as an example of how an EU store should look like from an accessibility point of view.
