Great Deal on Canon Pixma Pro100
Posted By: davidreilly3207, 04-04-2013, 04:12 PM

Amazon is running a great mail in rebate on Canon Pixma Pro printers. Buy a printer and get a American Express gift card, 100.00 usd for the Pro-1 & Pro-10, 200.00 usd for the Pro-100. Bundle it with a package of 13x19 Canon photo paper and get additional 100.00 usd added to the American Express card. You must buy from Amazon and not an Amazon merchant and all items must be purchased the same day. I bought a Pro-100 printer (378.77) and 50 sheets of 13x19 Canon Photo paper Pro Luster(65.00) for 443.77 total. Minus the 300.00 gift card the total will be 143.77. Received mine today and it is a winner. Be aware however that it is a beast. It needs a 25" wide x 39" deep footprint for proper operation(7" in the rear is the paper feed guide which can hang over the edge of a table or desk). Links to product and rebate forms below.

Update, when checking the links in my post, the price on the Pro-100 has dropped to 365.00 usd from 378.77 usd. Amazon has issued me a refund for the difference. That makes my total for printer and paper after rebate 230.00 usd! The promotion runs till June 30, 2013.

This looks like a great deal! I was otherwise ready to spend $400 on a new printer in a local store...

Wow - but shouldn't your total after rebate now be $130.00?

Printer $365.00
Paper $65.00
Total $430.00

Rebate -$300.00
Total $130.00

I looked at this deal early last month - I think they upped the rebate by $100 to make it $300 now for the printer/paper combo. What a deal - thanks for posting!

Just in time, in currently in the market for a photo printer. The only thing I'm worried about is what the ink price will run me monthly/yearly/per print. How long do the cartridges supposedly last? I am new to all of this printer shopping haha

Your right stormtech, the deal is better than I thought.
Bear, the ink isn't cheap and currently there are no third party inks available as this is a new printer. The 8 cartridges, 3 black and gray and 5 color, retail for 16.99 usd and contain 13ml. Comparing ml is the only true way to compare costs as claims of pages per cartridge are subjective. Conversely, the cost for the Pro-1 cartridges are 37.99 and contain 36ml, although it has 12 cartridges, 5 black and gray and 6 color and a gloss overlay. If the Pro-100 follows true to form with my old R220 epson with 5 colors and 1 black, the yellow, light cyan and light magenta will need to be replaced twice as often as the others. When 3rd party inks become available, I would expect their costs to be in the 8-10.00 usd range.
Having done some printing, including a couple of 13x19 prints, all I can say is that the results are amazing. Canon also has many third party paper supplier profiles available on their sight. Printing on the Red River Ultra Satin Pro using Lightroom produced a print more vibrant and truer to color when compared to the exact print from my old Epson R220, which was pretty good to begin with. Printing on the Epson Pro luster 13x19 paper produced prints that are gallery quality.
If anyone needs a new printer, 130.00 for this printer and 50 sheets of 13x19 Epson Pro luster paper is a great deal. Just remember to buy the printer and paper on the same order and directly from Amazon, not a merchant.

I did my due research on this - actually if you subtract the cost of the paper the net price for the printer is $65.00 shipped.

Looking at reviews I've found, maybe it isn't the best, but for what I am going to use it for it will be more than fine. Having the 3rd party paper support is good also. Red River Paper did a nice review:

Canon PRO-100 Review First Look Introduction and Getting Started

Also they have included it in their comparison of cost of printing with a detailed report:

Cost of Inkjet Printing Reports by Red River Paper

I was going to wait a few months before purchasing a printer after upgrading my computer room, but this deal swayed me to buying it now. I also plan on ordering the Red River sample pack and downloading their paper profiles.

This is why I'm glad I have an extremely small office (think 4x5 feet). No need to consider a great deal on a behemoth like this, and all the innumerable hours of tweaking to get that perfect 13x19" print!

Canon makes very good photo printers, though. My old Canon Pixma 8500 has been out of ink and in a box for over a year now due to space and time restrictions (thanks Einstein). But via these Amazon deals, we got a (crappy for photos) Pixma 6220 last year, and it has been very useful as a wi-fi printer, scanner and copier without taking up any of my precious, precious deskspace. Not a fan of Canon cameras, but they can make a mean inkjet!

Guess you don't want to hear this - computer room is 17'x10' and I have 21' of desk in a large U-shape. I already have a place picked out for this huge printer!

Those are two great links from Stormtech. Ink cost is high compared to most of the others listed but, @ 87.5 cents for an 8x10 full coverage high quality photo, it is not entirely out of line.

Like my offices in former days... sigh. Enjoy!

BTW, the art of making good prints is a satisfying one... particularly when others can enjoy your photos! I'm just glad I live in a city big enough to have a good printing house (Colourgenics for those in the GTA).
Oh yeah, it's living in this big city that gave me a 4x5 foot "office."

I used to use a printing house many years ago when I lived in/near a city. It was 1 block from where I worked and did fantastic work. I had a makeshift darkroom for doing my own B&W, but relied on the graphic house for everything else.

Since getting back into this in the last 2-3 years with digital, I've printed very little, and the prints that I did make were sent out to a commercial lab. This is fine, but I haven't printed much due to the cost, shipping fees, and the wait. I feel I've been missing something with my photography, and I think it is viewing prints. I know the cost factor might even be more with printing at home, but I am recently blessed () with a lot of time on my hands, so fiddling around to get some nice prints is fine.

I still need to get into printing, and this deal is insane. I pointed this out to one of my relatives and they mentioned having Amazon credit I could use (since they weren't) Sweet.

The price of the printer is now up to 421.60 and the paper is down to 51.91 for a total cost of 473.51. Less the 300.00 gift card the total is still a very reasonable 173.51 for printer and paper. BTW, I placed my order on April 2nd, received it on April 4th, mailed rebate on April 5th and received the 300.00 Amex card today, April 22nd.
After three weeks with the printer, I can say I am very happy with it. It is an excellent home photo printer.
