Sigma 85/1.4 for $844 shipped
Posted By: Docrwm, 04-06-2013, 07:27 AM

I've been shopping around and looking for deals. At B&H, Adorama, and Amazon the price was $894. That was also the lowest price on eBay for a non-"gray market" lens. But then I found that Abe's of Maine has it slightly cheaper for some reason at $859 shipped.

I also found that you can use coupon code LOYALTY15 at the checkout to take an additional $15 off the price, for a final price of $844 shipped. So in the end you're getting the lens for $50 cheaper than anywhere else.

Do keep in mind that AoM is currently in Chapter 11 and carries a 2 star rating on Yelp...

I believe that the OP is talking about a lens - not about buying the company

I would consider buying from them something of a risk right now...they are essentially a grey market dealer right now. They are not listed as an authorized reseller by Sigma.

Yes, I did not realize that they are not authorized resellers. I would stick with B&H or Adorama....thanks...

I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt you would have any trouble getting warranty service on a lens purchased from Abe's. I think the important thing is whether it is a US-market lens as designated by the serial number. I may email Sigma tomorrow and check.

BTW, I'm the same person who posted the deal referenced by the OP on SlickDeals dot net. I was about to order my Sigma 85mm from Abe's, but then I discovered I had a 10% off coupon from eBay, so I ended up buying the lens from 47th Street Photo on eBay for $804 shipped ($894 - 10%).

I just sent Sigma an email asking about the warranty status of lenses purchased from Abe's, so we'll see what they say.

Thanks. I try to post all SD Pentax deals here when I get them. Nice deal through eBay, I had a coupon like that when I made my 15Ltd purchase, sure was nice to get it for that much less. Enjoy yor lens.

I ordered a DA* from them a few years ago.
Shipping is quick, service may not be top but they did their job.
Too bad they are in Ch.11 now...

I bought my K-x from them in 2009, got a phone call and hard up-sell. I only bought from them because they were in NJ and at the time didn't charge NY sales tax...

I suppose getting the lens for $50 less than anywhere else would be worth dealing with a call from their sales department, so long as there were no other downsides.

I sent this message to Sigma sales:
Abe's of Maine currently has the Sigma 85mm 1.4 for Pentax on sale, so I just wanted to check to make sure that lenses purchased from Abe's are covered by the Sigma USA warranty.

Thanks,

Edgar
and I just got this response back:
Hello Edgar,

Yes, Abe’s of Maine is a Sigma Corporation of America is a dealer.

Yours Truly,

Paul Pizzano
