B&HSanDisk Extreme Solid State Drive (240GB) $169+FS(US)
Posted By: Docrwm, 04-08-2013, 12:16 PM

SanDisk Extreme Solid State Drive (240GB) SDSSDX-240G-G25 B&H

It runs $15 - 20 more at Amazon and other places. Descent price for this drive unit, and MUCH faster than a regular HD.

Good price, I just bought a Samsung 840 two weeks ago. How come all these deals show up after I buy?

And if you have not used an SSD drive, well you have to see it to believe it....

Prices are really dropping fast on these SSD's - now getting affordable for everyone. I jumped on the SSD wagon last week - amazingly fast! I think within the year SSD's will be commonplace in all computers.

Even my hybrid SSD is amazing. If I didn't need a super huge HDD (500gb+) then I would go full SSD instead of the 16gb I have

If you have a Blackmagic these are great for short film shoots.

can't comment on this specific SSD..but I've now tried 2 different manufactures....and WOW is the only thing I can say. IF you want to speed up your PC..switch to an SSD....absolutely the best investment I ever made in the PC realm.....you won't be sorry.

There is quite a difference in performance among different SSDs. Some are only SATA2. I always check Tom's Hardware. They publish a comparison chart of SSDs ranked on many factors. A single brand may have great and stinker levels of quality.

Once you go SSD, you never go back to magnetic HDD

How do I test if my laptop is really faster? I put in a Samsung 830 last fall, and it still seems slow to load lightroom. It was a fresh win7 install so it can't be gunked up this fast

I just picked up an optical bay HDD tray for my old magnetic hard drive- pictures are space hogs!! Gotta put it in today.

Make sure you put the whole Lightroom catalog including the Previews database on your SSD. And your system files.

I'm sure there are speed test type utilities you can use to test the performance of your hard drives. I don't use Windows primarily, but for my Mac I use Geekbench. Perhaps there is a Windows version.

It is. Right now,the SSD is all I have installed [into 2 partitions]
I was just curious, but not enough to really do anything about it.... It's installed and going to stay that way. Can't add any more RAM, so there's not a lot left to do to optimize the system
