Lightroom 4 US $99
Posted By: Brownie4u, 04-18-2013, 09:30 AM

I just got an email from Adobe offering Lightroom 4 for US $99 as an exclusive deal for Elements users.
Deal is good April 13-27, 2013.

I don't know if anyone can use the promo code or if you need to have a registered copy of Elements.

Adobe - Adobe Store - North America - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4

Promo code is : LIGHTROOM99

Thanks, I got this email offer as well. (have Elements). I'm just not sure the upgrade from LR3.6 is worth the $99. Will have to look into it. Any comments from folks here, on the value of the upgrade?

I feel the developer module is more advanced in 4 vs 3.6. There are easier/more capable tools for correcting lens and exposure issues than I recall from 3.6.
You can install a trial version side by side so you can test it yourself. I purchased 3.6 during the transition time to 4 and was able to get a free upgrade to 4 so it was a no brainer.
The presets do act a bit differently since LR4 uses en expanded set of controls.
I used to like to use a black and white preset in 3.6 for my street shots, but in 4 the same preset does not give the degree of contrast I like so I have to tweak it.
But things like the purple fringe correction tool, highlight control, etc are much better in LR4.

Lightroom 5 Beta available

I think that the upgrade from earlier Lightroom editions to 4 is a good one with many important changes. However, Adobe is offering Lightroom 5 Beta online. You will not be able to keep it after June but you could try it to see if you should wait until 5 appears, or go ahead and purchase 4.

I got an email from Adobe asking to upload & test the beta version of LR5. I don't know if I want to do it, I'm pretty happy with LR4.

Definitely worth downloading the trial version. I'm currently comparing Lightroom 4 and Aperture 3 trials to decide which one to go with.

I would run free LR 5 when you might need/want the features you don't have in yours, and then buy the LR5 upgrade, not LR4.

Thanks for the advice all. Think I'll give the beta 5 a go first. I've also got to look in to what happens to my prior edits done in LR3.6 when upgrading. I'm always playing around with fill light, and I see that's been removed in 4. Guess i've got some Googling to do, to see if things get screwed up.

That was replaced in V4.x with more sensitive controls for Highlights and Shadows. Though I enjoyed the Fill Light function, this is way better. Clarity is significantly improved as well. You will have a choice of upgrading your images from the 2010 Process of V3.x to 2012 Process of V.4 and V.5.
The nice thing is that you can keep your 2010 Process images as is in V4.x and use V3.x (I haven't tried V5 yet) Fill Light etc. When I cutover to V4.x it took me a few weeks to figure things out, but then did everything in V4.x. It is so much better.

No it's still there, but just hidden a bit, just go to Develop Module where the sliders are, find Camera Calibration down low on the right, find Process just below, just to the right a wee drop down box, click on 2010, will put you back to the previous version (Lightroom 3), with fill light on the sliders.

Seriously though I would play about a little more with the 2012 current setting, as the results IMHO are superior.

FYI, Interesting web page about new features of LR 5: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.0 Public Beta Feature Preview
I might Try it right now , even if I have LR 4.4, but the Grid Overlay in Loupe view would be a nice plus for me !

Just downloaded my copy.
I was debating about waiting for LR5 but I would assume when it is released there will be a full price no deal period.
I will just have to watch for a great deal on an upgrade when it becomes available.

In the mean time I have to master LR4 and get through all the photos from our Hawaii trip

Anybody know if I will be promted to enter a serial number when my 30 day trial runs out? Or will I have to download the whole program again?
