This is a first time I ever see it listed for sale. Extreme rarity. Very special lens.

Actually, I confused Quartz Takumar 85/3.5 with Ultra Apochromat Takumar 85/4.5. These are different lenses. The first one is mostly for UV photography, while the latter one is for everything from IR to UV.

when taking uv images, I find the 85mm f4.5 UA is little easier to use than the 85mm f3.5 quartz-takumar QT. both are rare. the abilities of these to capture uv images is unsurpassed, at least in my mind. the UA has slightly broader range than 105mm UV-Nikkor. price seems too high to me and seller does not appear to have the bellows that accompanied this special lens. hopefully who ever buys it uses will use it in he manner intended.

Funny, he has this listed as "(A+) Like New / No signs of use." Yet there is significant obvious wear on the mount as well as clear signs that the lens has been opened and tinkered with in the past. Notice the wear on the spanner notches?
very clear.
This seller has a large quantity of rare lens for sale on ebay.
I believe he also snipe on some good lens on there and resale it with a premium price. May be also repair it too.

Welcome to Pentax Forums, lowderkg.

Because your lenses are so rare, I hope you'll consider reviewing them for the Pentax Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database.

I know I'd enjoy reading more about them and I'm sure others would, too.

After seeing this thread I contacted a friend in the US who has been looking for one of these for a long time.

And he bought it!

The Pentax Super-Apochromatic Takumar 85mm f/3.5 comes in a box with all the filters needed for UV and IR photography- the lens on its own isn't worth all that much, but if it comes with the complete box of filters these rare lenses fetch spectacular prices. These lenses are so rare I have only seen pictures of it - I have never seen one.

The example being sold is not complete, the box the lens comes with isn't present - but the filters are there. I'm surprised it fetched a price that high.

@Digitalis: Don't confuse the earlier Quartz Takumar 3.5/85mm with the later Ultra Achromatic Takumar 4.5/85mm which superseded that, two quite different lenses! (Links to my collection added)

Btw only eight (8) Quartz Takumars 3.5/85mm are known to exist, including a recent one I just found - need one?
