You know, I was waiting for it to go <$1k. But that was before the most recent extreme price hike by Pentax. Now I am looking at what it will cost me to shift over to a Nikon 7100 with the basic lenses I need.

It's too depressing now with Ricoh and MAP and crazy price increases of up to 50% on established lenses with no development costs to recoup. You can always come to whatever <shudder> Nikon Fanboy forum I land on to find the non-Nikon prices I'm posting about.

Don't worry, doc won't leave us I've got nikonforums.com ready for launch worst case

But yeah, a Nikon dx system is definitely cheaper than Pentax at the moment if you want pro lenses.

I;ve been looking at the D5200--- but where to start. And I just ordered the 8mm Rokinon for Pentax yesterday! Decisions, decisions!

Adam,

I do NOT want to leave. I like Pentax gear. I just bought an AF540, and I have a passel of lenses. But Ricoh keeps pulling BS moves, won't talk to us, won't participate here but will at DPR, MAP was and is a disaster, raising prices on existing lenses that have 0 recoup left by up to 50%, and the list goes on. Nikon's AF is better, they have more lenses to choose from, they have more 3rd party vendors making lenses and other gear for their cameras, but their controls are horrible, their menu a confused process, you have to pay for VR in ever lens (what a waste), and their cameras are neither as weather resistant nor as study and ergonomic. I'd love to have the Nikon AF for my son's increasingly difficult to photograph soccer.

People keep posting about how smart Ricoh is, perhaps. People keep saying this brings things in line with European prices - So the blank what! Nikon prices are not the same around the world.

This move only serves to further marginalize the brand. They've sold far fewer lenses (that cost them the same to manufacture as they used to) since MAP and this will only further marginalize sales.

THe only upside is that if I do decide to leave my used lenses are worth more thereby lowering my cost for switching systems (smart of Pentax isn't that).

Adorama sends an Electronic Gift Card code for $100 via email after you purchase the K-5IIs for $1096, thereby effectively reducing the cost from an Online Pentax AD to $996.
