I saw this on eBay: Pentax SMC 50mm F1 2 Lens Manual Focus Mount | eBay

This has to be an error. I know the faster manual primes are highly regarded and sought after, but come on. A thousand bucks for one of these? This guy is freakin' nuts!

I don't think it's an error. Looks like it's about twice the lens's value, but hey, it's basically like new!

Does not surprise me in the least.

The seller has nikon filters for the same price. I'm thinking the seller doesn't want you to "buy it now" - they want it to be bid upon.

I go to government site auctions where things go for more than what their worth new all the time, so I think the seller is hoping for a bidding spree and hastily made bids! Happens all the time in the heat of bidding...

Interesting given someone just posted about buying one from an unsuspecting seller for $20 and everyone seems to be praising the buyer.

This is not even a Pentax A mount. $1000 is nearly 3 times its value...

I have seen this before. The seller puts high enough prices, as he is soliciting best offers from buyers. Unless some unsuspecting unknowing buyer comes along most will do the best offer option.

No kidding. I'm not surprised by any price on eBay unless it actually sells, though. They can ask for whatever they want. That doesn't mean anyone will buy it.

The A-version of this lens is commonly selling for more than $700 now, but there are several listings asking for $900 or more that aren't going anywhere. The non-A version rarely fetches more than $500.

KEH is showing the A with caps in E+ for $789. And if there were a problem with it you're dealing with a bricks and mortar store with a good reputation. I'm a little leery of FleaBay, although I've bought some Vitessa accessories from them with good results.

The Q with much more expensive 02 zoom lens was $210 at Newegg a few weeks ago.
