The 17-50/2.8 Tamron is an excellent lens and delivers great value. Nice and fast at 2.8 for great indoor stuff.

I use the 17-50 and the DA 55-300 as my main zooms.

Ultimately went for Sigma 17-70mm f2.8 - 4 Contemporary. Its an expensive lens but I bought on the basis of reviews.
