I'm not into those big lenses.

These big lenses are in demand.

Many years ago when I bought my Tokina 800mm f8 thread mount lens off Ebay for under $150 with shipping I had been looking for a 1000 or 1200 or so for quite awhile. I needed it to be under $300 and hopefully much under that point. I grabbed this one after it had been listed for most of December with the price slowly going down. So 3 days before Christmas 2002 it listed for a 3 day auction for 100 minimum bid and I bid less the shipping amount. Christmas Eve I won it after only 2 other bids. Before this lens I had found a nice 400mm for 60, a 500mm Vivitar which is a so-so lens for 40 and a nice 75 to 260 f4 zoom for 20 including shipping. Than at one point I saw a 300mm Takumar f4 for a fairly low price but got caught up in bidding and spent close to 200. All of this before 2005. Since these purchases I have seen to prices of all these long manual lenses slowly climb and then recently just really jump up. Theses are more difficult to work with than any auto aperture lens or full AF lens yet I believe that photographers that use FF digital camera and even those that use APS-C have discovered that they can make these work for the occasional time that the photographers need the extra "reach" I have only used mine for Bald Eagles but the others for many other events. Today this collection of old glass would sell for a lot more. Because of that I started having the lenses cleaned calibrated and any worn stuff replaced. That is another good point for these lenses, they Are serviceable where most all AF lenses are not once they get to be 4-5 years old.
I would Love to afford the new Pentax 560mm lens or one of the A* 600mm lenses but in retirement I do not see where that money will come from unless I win a lottery.
I really, really value my old clunky "bazooka" lenses.

Also the mirrorless digital cameras really have boosted prices on all old glass, no matter what focal length.

It's quite interesting how new technology can reincarnate old stuff again. Like how old stories, things and information never has been as accessible as now with the internet.
