I'm not into those big lenses.

I would get the 500mm F4.5 instead and use it with my SMC Pentax-F 1.7x AF Adapter.

I was going to ask why you have two of these monsters, but I guess the obvious answer is that two is always better than one. But then, wouldn't three be better than two?

If you put three of these lenses too close to each other, it will screw up the gravity and the world will implode. We don't want that, right?

I wonder what the shipping charge would be, or whether the box that would be needed even complies with postal regulations.

Yes, that would be bad. These don't have the thorium coating like the Takumar 50 f/1.4, do they? That might be deadly!

I threw it in my cart to see what would happen. It racked up a $60 shipping charge for the cheapest option (Fedex Ground ) to get it to me in Tempe. It would be $40 to you in Pittsburgh.

I have the k-mount version (bought it from KEH). It's a serious lens which--because of its physical length--requires serious support. A bit prone to CA though. One's enough for me

Hmm....how many times have you been brought in for questioning by local law enforcement, when setting up your bazooka^H^H^H^H^H^H^Htele-lens in public?

My 25lb 900mm F5.9 is big enough for me. It also works great with full frame Sony NEX-VG900 .

Last I was photographing near an airport, with a 200/2.8, I was kindly (but sternly) told to make myself vanish, and on the double.

I figure that attempting photography with an 1000mm, and somebody else would "make me vanish" even faster

As a tangent, many many years ago, when the "Pentax Square" in Shinjuku was called "Pentax Forum", they had all their bazooka-lenses lined up to try....I got to play with some of them, and while I absolutely do not see myself ever using one, it was fascinating to be able to fill the frame of a camera with the top-floor window of a 35 level skyscraper.

Which brings me to...what the heck are you using them for, I assume that e.g. dadipentak isn't just keeping it in the living room as a conversation piece ?

It sometimes serves that purpose but I bought it for bird photography--mostly from my porch. Given the right conditions (lots of light, for one thing) it performs admirably.

I've since bought more modern, portable (and expensive) long lenses but have to credit the "Black Dragon" for much of what I've learned about long-lens technique.

Alright, that bird-photo alone justifies your owning that bazooka. Wow, I'm impressed!
