Thanks for the tip.

Bought one and just received it. It included the WR lens which makes it a really great deal.

Thanks!

Is that a metal mount or the plastic kit version? (I don't know if the WR even comes in the plastic version - just curious).
Also, does it quick shift? I guess I am basically asking whether it is a DA or a DA-L lens.

They are going to make a plastic mount version for the K-50 kit, but this should be the original metal mount.

It is the metal mount and the DA lens; at least mine was. You can email them to confirm. The picture in the description shows the wrong lens.

Yeah, I noticed that the lens pictured was wrong - which prompted some concern. Really is a great deal if it is the metal mount - DA (with quick shift).

Metal mount

Definitely a metal mount which sells for $174.00 and up. Makes the camera about $325.00 Very good deal.

The K-30 WR lens has a metal mount. Future WR kit lenses (for the intro level cameras) will have a plastic mount, and they will be branded "DA L".

I've got the plastic mount WR lens on me right now and the build quality is actually much better than the old DA L lens (which will ship with non-sealed DSLR only from now on).

Yeah, I went ahead and took advantage of the $500 deal. This is the first time since the days of the 50mm prime (the m-f/1.4 on an LX) that I bought a kit lens - and in Pentax SLRs, never anything below flagship (allowing for a tendency to buy at time of closing out to a new version), but this is an unusual situation.

It is about time I take advantage of full WR (none of my lenses are WR). I do a lot of shooting with quality manual prime and fast zoom lenses; and I view the K-30 as a superior tool compared to the K5 for that kind of shooting with LV & focus peaking. The IQ is pretty much even, and the AF appears to be a touch more accurate. To the extent I'll be using pTTL external flash (not much), I know the newer processing engine is far ahead of the K5 and previous entries in terms of accuracy and speed (droopy eyes). So, from the perspective of getting paid (occasionally) I really believe the K-30 as a tool will give more near-perfect images than the K5. Of course the low price is hard not to take into account (calculating out to around $250 less than the K5). Also, I'm accustomed to the K-01 layout, so that works better for me - as both these units will be staying as main shooters for years to come.

I just bit on this as well.

The wifey doesn't like the K-01 for taking pics of the little ones because it doesn't focus as fast as the K10d I used to have as well as the slow RAW continuous mode.

At $500 this is only a few dollars more then a K-30 without any lens. The cheapest I saw was on Amazon for $460 for just the body.

The wife is right. I love the IQ of the K-01, and will still use it in a lot of situations (quieter shutter, better video, slightly smaller body), but it doesn't work well for moving objects - even children.

I ordered mine last weekend and received it on Wednesday. It also came with the 18-55 WR lens and a hood as well. It seems like a great upgrade to me K-X.
