While the kit lens isn't absolutely sharp, it isn't terribly bad.

K7, 55mm, ISO 200, 1/320, f8. Handheld, SR on.

Bumblebee on mustard.

PS- also cropped. So loses quality there as well, but I was still pretty happy with the result.

We are veering slightly offtopic. However, large online retailers like B&H and Adorama have brokerage deals with the package carriers and will show you the exact total when ordering and shipping items from the US to Canada. My K-01 was ordered from B&H and shipped to Montreal. There were no extra fees when receiving the item. Much more useful info on this topic can be found here.

However, it's unlikely that Hunt's has such a deal, which means it's possible to be hit by largish brokerage fees (& taxes) if you have them ship you something in Canada. The Amazon Canada deal at $599 is $100 more than Hunt's price though, so there's some margin to play with. If Hunt's are willing to ship USPS to Canada, it might still wind up quite a bit cheaper than the (not bad) amazon.ca price...
Good points. After brokerage, taxes, and shipping, I suppose it's probably not gonna end up being a huge difference between this and the amazon.ca deal (considering they have free shipping). Hunts will probably end up being cheaper by only $50 or so in the end...Maybe I should just hold out for amazon to drop down to $500 or less haha!

Doesn't Amazon.ca include the VAT in the price? And won't you have to pay the same rate with a private entry?

I know the few times I've been to CA your customs forms looked just plain ornery and double that for residents.

shipping to a different address than billing was almost impossible.
Cross country address will make it even harder.
Just ask them if they will ship to Canada??
I have started using a mail drop box in the States and others have been using them for years. Only one company that I have dealt with will not ship to other than billing address unless you use Paypal. I have also had items shipped to hotels in New Orleans and New Mexico before as well. B&H for example have shipped to New Orleans and to Sweetgrass MT to me while billing it in Canada

Stay a day or two in WA and declare the camera. I think if you do not stay a day you will have to pay the GST or in your case is it the HST but you would have to if you bought it locally anyways

I shipped to dropbox in bellingham, WA.
If you spend more than 48hrs in US, you get $800 duty free limit

Problem was that hunts didn't want to ship to bellingham as my billing address is in another state (i am using a US credit card not my Canadian one). After dealing with them for about 2 days, they shipped it.

Mine should be here soon. Just waiting for the UPS truck to roll up. I don't have to watch for them - the dogs will let me know.

I wish it was even available. I'd pull the trigger right now....

Probably gonna get the K-50 bundle from Adorama this week, otherwise.

You can get the K-30 body only from Amazon for $445.19.

Amazon.com: Pentax K-30 Weather-Sealed 16 MP CMOS Digital SLR (Black, Body Only): Camera & Photo

If I had to do it over again I would probably buy the K-30 body and then get the 18-135mm WR lens. I bought the K-30 w/ 18-55mm WR from Hunt's for the $499.95 but I want to get the 18-135mm lens anyway and i'd be lucky to sell this 18-55mm lens for $70 on here, so buying them separately is essentially the same price.

18-135mm WR Lens: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190865272916?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
$393.66

So $838.85 for the K-30 w/ 18-135mm WR is a better deal IMO than the K-30 + 18-55mm for $500.
