Newegg has this refurbished drive at a very nice price. Back up your images folks!

I one thing that I would probably never buy refurbished is a hard drive.

Ditto. Not only might you expect the drive to be less reliable, but there's always the risk of you (or someone else) running a file recovery program on the disk one day and getting an unpleasant surprise or two, bequeathed to you by the former owner of the disk.

Ditto, why would you trust something that gave someone else trouble. The prices of hard drives have gone down considerably since the spike caused by flooding in Thailand.

I agree. I went through 8 Seagate drives in order to get two that worked. What happened to the six I returned? Well, that's anybody's guess.

And the two I'm left with are sluggish and more suitable as door stops than backup devices.

I have switched to these Buffalo MiniStations. They are reliable and lightening fast, even with USB 2.0.
