Pentax 35mm for $150 and 50mm for $120. Other lenses too.

Pentax is having a sale on lenses. There are a few on sale but these two seem pretty good. The 35mm is $150 and the 50mm is half off at $120.

How can other companies (Canon/Nikon) offer lenses cheaper than Pentax? I saw this on old buy.com website:
Rakuten.com - Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens

That is the hilarity of it.. for me at least.. I bought into Pentax partly because of the allure of cheaper lens prices (due to in-body image stabilization) only to discover lens prices are the same or more in Pentax land.

Even look at 50mm lenses...

Canon has three... a 1.8 (125 USD), 1.4 (400 USD), and a really pricy 1.2 (1400 USD).
Nikon has a few.. 1.8D (135 USD), 1.8G (220 USD), 1.4D (330 USD), 1.4G (470 USD), and a 1.2 (700 USD)

Pentax has.. 2.8 FA Macro (520 USD), 1.8 (250 USD), FA 1.4 (450 USD), and a 55mm DA* 1.4 (800 USD)

Maybe because they have a IS II version...

1) minor tweak to IS
2) ???
3) profit?

But generally, at least consumer grade ones, I think Pentax lenses feel slightly better build to me and possibly due to lower volume they ended up pricing it slightly higher too.

We really shouldn't be glib about it. If they don't honor the deal, I would definitely send a few emails to them voicing my displeasure. I didn't even buy the lenses, but one of my friend who recently started Pentax did and it would be terrible if she didn't get to get those lenses.

I just bought the 50 1.8. The specs state this lens is a quick shift is it or isn't it? The 35 2.4 is back to the normal price. Thank you all for the heads up on this deal. My other 50 is a A50 2.0. Unlike some of you I am not overstocked on normal lenses. My lens buying is becoming an addiction though.

It does not have quick shift.

For sure I'd do the same. If the price mistake were something obviously wrong, like say $40 for the 35mm, then I;d have no problem with cancelling. But $150 while low isn't crazy low. Canon has 50mm 1.8 for $125 currently, so $120 for the DA 50 while low still isn't outlandishly low. I believe Ricoh should and can honor the price.

Has anyone who ordered the DA 50 1.8 received a shipping notification from Pentax with the same price as advertised, $119.95?
Just wondering because, I just got an email saying they will charge my CC $249.95 at the time of shipment.

I got that too. That's weird. I wouldn't want to pay more than what was advertised.

I got the same confirmation and I replied to it. I have a hard and pdf copy of my receipt showing the 120 price. I won't accept the lens at the $250 price.

If they honor the price life is good. If they don't I will never shop there again. The lens is all over the web at far less than $250.

That's a very strange practice to send a confirmation letter with different price than when it's ordered, almost worthy of complain to BBB... Are they really that bad with customer relations?

When I checked my account this morning, I HAD been charged $260. I immediately called. In fact, I'm on the phone with the pentax webstore customer service right now. K, just got off the phone. The rep was VERY apologetic, didn't know why the price had defaulted to the $249. She assured me that it was simply a hold, not a charge, and will be reversed within one-two business days, that when the lens ships I'll be charged the $119+shipping, $129 total! So HOLY COW, what a great price. Or in reality, though, it's not actually a great price but a price more in line with Canikon's "kit" 50mm 1.8. But YEAH!

It is a great price because it is a better built lens than the Canon. But Pentax had to follow through with their price, otherwise it is horrible business
practice. My friend who bought them says the charges on her card are pending and are the correct discounted price for now.
