Pentax 35mm for $150 and 50mm for $120. Other lenses too.

Pentax is having a sale on lenses. There are a few on sale but these two seem pretty good. The 35mm is $150 and the 50mm is half off at $120.

Their website still shows the $119.95 price. So, I placed another order and copied my order confirmation that shows $119.95. I then emailed customer service asking why my order from yesterday was cancelled, while the website still shows the $119.95 price. I informed them that I placed another order for $119.95, attached the confirmation for $119.95 and said that I expect them to honor that price. We'll see what happens.

Ok, that makes sense to me. On my laptop at home, the DA 50 1.8 was still there and displayed a price of $119. But on my desktop at work, the 50mm is not even there, as someone mentioned earlier. I placed my order on Aug. 14 as well, but again, when I called this morning, the rep said no problems, she changed the $250 to $119 and all is good. I didn't think to ask when these might ship, but she mentioned I wouldn't be charged until the lens ships. So I'll just wait and see. Awesome deal if it happens; terrible for Pentax if it doesn't, especially given the support this forum gives them. I decided to buy my first Pentax, the K200D, after reading a ton of stuff on this site; more recently, I decided to buy the K-5ii and DA 40mm 2.8 after reading a ton of stuff here. I'll withhold final judgment for a few days.

When I click that link, it takes me to a page to purchase the lens for $119.95, so I'm not sure what you're referring to. Now, I didn't actually try to buy it just now, so maybe that's the difference.

Odd. Right this minute, I'm able to pull it up and add it to my cart. It shows as in stock and ships in 1 day.

Just got this email:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent email. The original authorization shows the higher price. I have gone in and fixed the price. The reason why the higher price originally came over is because the Lens Rebate only should apply if you purchased a camera as well. They are going to honor the price since it was a web error.

Thank God!

I just ordered one and it went through with no difficulty. While I have a few 50's and 55's, all are manual focus and I could use a AF 50. At this price, I'll take the chance.

And I just got this email:

"Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent email. Our web department is working to fix this issue. If you ordered a lens and did not purchase a camera then the price will revert back to full price. They will cancel all orders that do not have the camera on the order.

Thank You
Jennifer

Looks like they have no idea what's going on.

Whether a wise move or not, I just cancelled my order for the 50mm f/1.8 after getting a message from "Jenn" saying the lens will cost me $259.95 unless I cancel. Maybe I should have held out, but I decided to get out of the loop on this one!

Others are getting cancellation emails on some of the deal sites as well and apparently Customer Service is saying several different things, which is no surprise. My order continues to say backordered. It's a very poor reflection on a company when they would risk losing future patrons, especially when they are probably even making a small profit on the lens at the reduced price. If this is an indication of what we can expect from the Ricoh leadership going forward, I for one, may switch systems sooner rather than later.

Maybe if everyone who gets the shaft on this deal were to file a BBB complaint, it would send a strong message to Ricoh to implement corrective actions to prevent this from happening again, or better yet, acknowledge your screwup and honor the price mistake. These "price mistakes" are happening way too frequently with too many companies, and there apparently is no repercussions and no real recourse for the consumer.

I got an email from Jenn that my order is cancelled. I guess many of us got the same kind of email. How many got emails saying Pentax will honor the deal?

Just got this:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent email. Unfortunately your order will not be honored with the sale price unless a camera is purchased today. It will automatically cancel out of our system and you will be sent a letter.

Thank You
Jennifer
