Pentax is having a sale on lenses. There are a few on sale but these two seem pretty good. The 35mm is $150 and the 50mm is half off at $120.

I bought both of these when they went on sale late in 2012. Both are great, the 35mm is my fav of the two.

OK. Hit the trigger. Now what do I do with it? I got my first AF 50.

I know what, this will allow me to test all my manual 50's against. Shameful LBA - Takumars, M, Fujinon. And then there's the 55's too.

What this buys me though is probably the perfect focal length from center bleachers at my daughter's basketball game. I normally bring my DA 40 and 70 and switch from one to the other.

oh man decisions decisions. i'm liking my 40mm xs a lot, but it's a little slow for low light, and a little close for "walk around". the 35 is only a tad faster and little wider. the 50 is fast enough, but a little tight for me liking. so do I get both, or neither (wife votes neither)

Get both. Think of it as renting the lens for minimal cost. Eventually if you sell you will be able to at same price or even more for the 50. I bought my 35 used for 150. Now I got the 50 as well. I also have the 40 but the 35 angle of view is much better, and allows for lower ISO, faster shutter

Hello TropicalMonkey,
I'd say they're slightly less loud than the FA's, much quieter than the F's. I have an F 35-70mm and it's pretty noisy. Sweet little zoom otherwise.
....

Overall, my unofficial view is that Pentax AF has gotten slightly faster and quieter through the F, FA and now DA.
Not silent by any measure; But pretty good.
Ron
Thank you! Exactly what I wanted to know!

I am sold and just bought my second Auto Focus prime lens. I think 35mm is ideal to replace normal lens for APS-C format, even though the perception is a little different.

I have an F 35-105, that I received when I bought a used K100D sometime ago. It is so noisy that it was never made to "my" lens collection. F 35-105 must be the noisiest camera equipment in existence! I have also used FA 35-80 and FA 80-200, both are noisy but still acceptable.

I tried to buy the 10-17 fisheye. It says it is out of stock, but it also says it ships in 10 days. Won't let me buy it, though; only lets me sign up to be notified when it's back in stock.

Still holding off on the 35 and 50 for now...

Edit: For anyone looking for the fisheye, just saw that Crutchfield has it for the same price:

Irrestible deals! The code mentioned above for free shipping by a good samaritan indeed works like a charm. Ordered my first Auto Focus modern Prime the lovely DA 35mm for a grand total of US $149.00 Was eyeing the B&H deal at US$ 181.00. This is WAAAYY BETTER. Now I hope my copy is good

I'm really excited about this sale, and I hope it proves to Pentax that they can sell a lot of gear if they charge more consumer-friendly prices.

Ordered a copy of the DA50. Now trying to talk myself out of the 35.

Can't wait to use it on my PZ-1P as a real 50!
