Pentax is having a sale on lenses. There are a few on sale but these two seem pretty good. The 35mm is $150 and the 50mm is half off at $120.

Great deal! I don't really need it, but I picked up the 50mm with free shipping. Going to Florida in a couple of weeks, so I'm thinking of packing a small travel kit with the DA 15, 50 and 55-300.

Yeah, read post #25 from iamarunr. I put the 50 in my cart and waited for awhile and then tried to close my browser, and a chat screen popped up with an offer for free shipping.

doh! right in front of my post.. completely overlooked it.. oh well.. 11 bucks more isn't terrible for 2 lenses that costs a bit more than the 50 alone normally. hehe

Besides the 35vs50 what is the differance between the 2 lenses. I am new to all this and I am trying to decide I want/need to buy both of them? Thanks!

$120 for a brand new no slouch DA 50mm 1.8 is such a great deal that I couldn't resist. On the other hand, DA 35/2.4 is unbeatable at $150. There's no way I can skip that. Yup, I bought both

Any reason for this great sale? Is it a new pattern to offset recent price hike? Or maybe new lenses in these FL are coming?

one has aperture 2.4 (the 35mm) the other at f/1.8 (the 50mm)

Meaning the 50mm will be a little better than the 35mm in low light situations. That said, I'd look at focal length before minimum aperture when deciding lenses.

btw the 35mm and the 50mm focal lengths are their rating on a Full Frame camera. On the crop sensors our K-5/50/500/-x/-r/20d/etc use, they are more zoomed in -- the 35mm is really a 52.5mm and the 50mm is around 75mm IIRC for our APS-C based cameras.

How noisy is DA35 while focusing? Any first hand experience please?
Hello TropicalMonkey,
I own both the DA 35mm f/2.4 and DA 50mm f/1.8, but looking at your sig, we don't share any other AF lenses, so I can't compare it directly to another lens you have. As all Pentaxians know, a screw-drive lens isn't as quiet as SDM drive, so we'll leave that out of the comparison.
The new DA's are very quiet, a slight 'whrrr' as they focus. In addition, the DA 35mm f/2.4 has a TOTAL focus throw from close-to-infinity of 1/4 turn, so in addition to not being loud, it doesn't have far to go and gets there fast. Also, there's no 'thunk' at the end, like the F series lenses.
The Fantastic Fifty has a longer MF rotation, about 5/8 turn from lock-to-lock. Still not long, it's just as fast to AF, and just as quiet as the 35.
I'd say they're slightly less loud than the FA's, much quieter than the F's. I have an F 35-70mm and it's pretty noisy. Sweet little zoom otherwise.
My FA 100mm f/3.5 Macro is considerably louder than either DA. So is my DA 16-45mm, but zooms generally make more noise, more glass to move.
Overall, my unofficial view is that Pentax AF has gotten slightly faster and quieter through the F, FA and now DA.
Not silent by any measure; But pretty good.

Once you add the lens to your cart (The screen where it says PROCEED TO CHECKOUT), choose to close the browser tab, a pop window from Pentax flashes a message offering free shipping for purchase of over $99. Click the link and the shipping fee vanished. So DA 50mm f/1.8 for $119.95 flat. Woot!
Good thing I caught your comment because I saved some money on shipping!!

I was aiming at only getting the 35, but at those prices I just had to get both!! Can't wait for them to come in!!
