Pentax is having a sale on lenses. There are a few on sale but these two seem pretty good. The 35mm is $150 and the 50mm is half off at $120.

It seems you've answered your own question. I have not seen it before but when was the last time you came across 48% discount on a modern/current prime lens offered by Pentax web-store itself?
Yes, very good point. ok, pulling out my wallet now...

someone please talk me out of buying the DA 50 at this ridiculously low price ... keeping in mind that I already have the FA 43 f/1.9 and a FA 50 f/1.4, there's really no compelling reason for me to get a DA 50 f/1.8, right??? Other than having a cheap-o, lightweight lens to go places where I might not care if things are stolen? Or is this just a case of LBA, jump-on-the-bandwagon, becoming one of the lemmings?
Absolutely you are asking for help at a wrong place.
And since I own FA 43, I will tell you this:
GO AND GET IT OTHERWISE YOU WILL REGRET FOREVER.
PS I bought it.

That's why I'm wondering about the reason for this. Maybe it's the new pricing pattern Ricoh addopted, i.e higher regular price but with deeper discount from time to time. Or are there DA 35/2.4 II and 50/1.8 II coming? With QS and metal mount?

Don't get too excited yet, people. This is from a deal site just now:

"DO NOT ORDER....

The confirmation email lists a higher 249 price and the pending charge on my card says the same.

Customer service replied that the price is based on buying a camera body with the lens and that none of these will ship at this price.
Good luck."

Well my confirmation email says $119 for the 50mm and $149 for the 35mm. Would Pentax risk pissing me off by not shipping?

Didn't this happen once before? I seem to recall that the prices of FA 31, 43, 77 were offered for $200 off their regular prices but then later the retailers clarified that you had to buy a new K-5 II body with it in order to get the discounted lenses....

This could get interesting.
The $120 is out of my PayPal account for the 50.
I guess they can put it back in, if they're not going to honor the sale.

There will be Blood!

Bummer I guess it was too good to be true. My paypal still only shows "pending" so they haven't really charged it yet.

This is not an overstock.com operation. I have a feeling this is a real deal and everyone will get their lenses at the expected price.

Same here. My email confirmation also says $119. Order status on web-store says "Hold for Quote". Don't know what that means.

I ordered just a couple hours after this post came up yesterday, but now the status says "All back ordered". Anyone knows when this sale started?

That's weird about the order status saying "backordered." The main product page says "In Stock"

The Pentax Webstore is actually operated by a third party. My one and only experience wasn't impressive, honestly.
