Pentax 35mm for $150 and 50mm for $120. Other lenses too.
Posted By: lenshoarder, 08-13-2013, 11:28 AM

Pentax is having a sale on lenses. There are a few on sale but these two seem pretty good. The 35mm is $150 and the 50mm is half off at $120.

My PayPal transaction lists SureSource LLC. And SureSource's website showcases screenshot of Pentax web store.
Not sure if SureSource is the source of all this confusion.

Same here. My email confirmation also says $119. Order status on web-store says "Hold for Quote". Don't know what that means.
My e-mailed receipt says $249.95, though at time of order it went through as $119.95. Nothing has gone through on my CC yet. On my order detail at webstore it still shows as $119.95... I am greatly confused!

The Pentax Webstore is actually operated by a third party. My one and only experience wasn't impressive, honestly.
although operated by a third party, the pentaxwebstore is the "official" online store for Pentax USA. so it's not like it's some fly-by-night shop.

Well for what it's worth I called Pentax Webstore and spoke with a representative named Scott. He confirmed there's a problem with their web site and they are working on a resolution. It may take a day or so. They put the 50/1.8 on back-order so they don't get anymore orders until they problem is fixed.
I inquired about the free shipping that I was offered and he said only one promotion can be applied to an order so if you got the promotion price then you won't be eligible for the free shipping. My invoice shows free shipping and a total price of $119.95 and so does my Visa card pending transaction.
So this transaction seems very questionable to me. I didn't get any assurance that Pentax will be honoring the transaction from my conversation with Scott but I also didn't get any assurance that they will not. So it's all up in the air and only time will tell....

Wow they must have a cubic crapton of the 50/1.8 to not have sold out yet! I hope this ships, I'll be watching this thread...

I wish I had gotten a 35 mm, I have a large gap in my wide primes between 8 and 50mm. I bought a 50/1.8 though everything else looked sold out.

Thanks Lenshoarder!

Hmm, the DA 35 is on backorder but the 50/1.8 is still showing up as available for order, in stock, and ships in one day. very strange....

I just called Pentax Webstore and the DA50 price listed on the website for $119.95 is incorrect. The price has a mistaken discount applied as if you are ordering a camera with the lens (current rebate). The Customer Service rep says that all these orders for $119.95 (lens only) are being cancelled by the webstore. Seems like they should honor the published price but they are not - but I'm Ok with that, mistakes happen. I only ordered one since the price was too good to be true - as usual it was. Look for a cancellation notice soon.

I check my checking account and it still shows as pending. If this was a mistake and they don't honor the prices for those who ordered this is crappy customer service. If they cancel orders this is the last time i order from Pentax site directly.

First rule about deals is NEVER CALL THE STORE. Haven't you ever visited slickdeals? haha

In more seriousness.. this will be a bummer if they cancel all of these but within their right to cancel. it happens all the time on too good to be true deals on SD.

I wonder if the 35mm orders are going to process though??

Dear Pentax Web Store,
I promise to keep quiet if you go ahead and send me my order. Just cancel all the rest

Thanks for the heads-up, I think. I bought a DA 50 before reading the rest of this thread. My emailed receipt indicated $250 instead of $130, but I printed the receipt and saved the .pdf file of it just in case. We'll see what happens. My credit card wasn't charged instantly or within a few minutes which leads me to believe there may be an issue with this.

Once you add the lens to your cart (The screen where it says PROCEED TO CHECKOUT), choose to close the browser tab, a pop window from Pentax flashes a message offering free shipping for purchase of over $99. Click the link and the shipping fee vanished. So DA 50mm f/1.8 for $119.95 flat. Woot!

Thanks, I think but now I am $120 poorer.

That extra $10.00 made me do it.

Edit: We shall see. I broke down and placed the order on about page 4 of this thread. If they cancel it is their loss. At least they learned the MAP is a bust based on the number of sales they need to cancel.

If this is a situation where the pricing is indeed incorrect, why has it not been updated yet?

You'd think if they messed up the pricing, the first thing they would do is fix it on the main site, but it's still marked as being on sale for $120, even the next day.

Yeah, and I JUST checked again, and it's marked as on sale. If they don't honor that price, I'll be pretty upset, hoppin' mad even. Don't know what I'll do about it, but I won't be pleased.
