35mm f2.4 DA L B&H $182 FS
Posted By: ToyTank, 08-19-2013, 12:35 PM

I saw this @ B&H looking around crying to myself about the pentaxwebstore fiasco. I think I'm in for one.

This is about what I see them going for used. Only $32 more than the price mistake.

Here's the link, but if you buy one click through here to get this forum some kickback.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these.... i'm just worried that it'll be even cheaper on Black Friday

BH had a promotion through the 31st of October on both the 35mm DAL and the 50mm

it appears that promotion has now been extended through the end of the year... so I'm not sure if you'll see any lower prices on these two lenses.. at least at BH

My how things change in a month... I ended up getting one of these, and i'm loving it so far. Much better IQ than the 18-55m WR lens. Very impressive for the money.

That is good to know!

I was about to say I was on the fence due to the bad copy I got and the bad examples in the short reviews I've seen...

until I (just now) discovered the lens club page here.. we actually have people who can take in-focus images here apparently (with solid working copies of the lens)

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/196639-da35-f2-4-plastic-f...ic-club-8.html

nice!

I ordered a used one (rated '9+') in early September from BH and it came defective (focus ring extremely stiff).. had to return it..

The few shots I did take with it didn't really impress me with sharpness.. perhaps it was a faulty copy. However, I've not been impressed with the online examples so far over my (cheap) Sigma 18-200mm. So I'm on the fence with buying a new copy of this 35mm... it doesn't really seem to have much advantage over even a relatively cheap zoom stopped down.. at least from the limited experience and resources I've seen. :c (
Hmm sounds to me like your lens was defective... I noticed a significant improvement in sharpness over the 18-55mm WR (of course if your shooting with better lenses than perhaps it's relative).

yeah that is nice.. very sharp... I like the contrastyness too... makes the colors seem a bit deeper.

I did a little bit of editing on that, but not much. I believe I enhanced the Contrast & Saturation but that was really it.

As I said, for a $182 prime lens, it's pretty damn good. I hardly even know how to use my camera so imagine what someone who does could do with it

It seems like the deal is back on, it had expired at the end of November but now both affordable DA prime lenses - 35 2.4 and the 50 1.8 are on sale for 181.95 at Adorama and B&H, until the middle of March of next year.
I'm pretty sure I'll get me a 50 1.8 before March, just like I got the 35 2.4 from B&H last month, and I'm very happy with it. With that kind of price, it doesn't make sense at all to buy a used one to save 10 or 20 dollars.

Christian, if you don't mind used, watch BH sometimes they sell a used copy on there.. I got a rated 10/10 50mm f/1.8 for 140 a couple of weeks ago and it is nice.

I also bought a 35mm f/2.4 rated 9+ several months ago on the same site for around the same price, but it was not 9+ (broken, focus wheel) so it is a grab bag.

I saw a 50 1.8 for 150 recently, I think it was at Adorama though. I passed on it. Also passed on a 35 2.4 for the same price before I bought my new copy. For 130 I would consider it. For 140 and up (and then shipping on top of that), I think I'll pay the extra few bucks and get it brand new with warranty, free shipping and no wear at all. I'm loving my 35 2.4 that I got brand new last month

The DA 50 1.8 is 181.95 at Amazon now, too.
