DA* 50-135 for $997 at Adorama...
Posted By: seventysixersfan, 08-30-2013, 11:19 AM

I don't know if this is a "deal" per se, but it is a $400 drop.

Same price, $997:

lens by itself:
Pentax SMCP-DA 50-135mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM Lens 21660

bundle deal with a few small goodies:
Pentax SMCP-DA 50-135mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM AF Lens -BUNDLE- w/Filter Kit #21660 21660 K

They also have the 43 ltd (in a kit with filter etc.) for $608.00...

This looks like a very good deal! On their site, it says that this is a price drop, so perhaps Pentax have decided to ease up on their MAP restrictions? They can't expect to sell many lenses (if any) at full price.

Humm.... I was hoping this would be the new going price for a great lens. Maybe it'll drop back down again to $997.

The deal seems to be gone now. I tried adding it to my cart and both items (the lens alone and the lens with kit) show up as $1400. The price seems to be back in fantasy land.

EDIT: At least the deal is still there for the 43mm. Pentax must not have told them to "fix" it yet.

Is it just me or does $996 still seem like a lot for this lens? Considering you can get a used one for as low as $616 from KEH (less than half the price of a normally priced new one).

It is overpriced at $997 but you get a 1 year warranty and hopefully more reliable SDM if the lens was made in 2012 or later. The used KEH models may well have ticking-time-bomb SDM just waiting to fail...

Well the savings are gone now. MAP restrictions aren't being lifted after all

When you can get the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 for $670, and it's fast screw drive reliable focusing, and it's sharpness as good as the Nikon VRII and Canon IS Mark II the 50-135 for anything more than $700 seems VERY expensive.

Having said that, if they drop the price on black Friday to <$800 like they did last year AND they don't announce a FF, I may buy one and a 16-50 again. But only if they drop the prices like they did last year...
