Originally posted by littledrawe I think there is a chance this lens was converted to a Nikon mount. There have been several of the 500mm f4.5 lenses on the bay that are Nikon converts. Somebody said that back then Nikon offered the mount change as a service because they didn't have a comparable lens. I could have some of the details wrong but I remember hearing something like that.
I read a post some years ago (but I lost the link when a laptop crashed and took my Favorites list with it - I learned then the .pst files never back up to external drives) claiming that the Associated Press converted their Tak 500 and 1000 lenses in 1970 when they switched from Pentax to Nikon bodies. The conversion was a threaded pipe hack of the M42 mount tube. I had purchased just such a molested Tak 500/4.5 from a member here that I think Eric back-converted to m42 using a T-mount to M42 converter. I changed that to K mount and it actually worked.
Somewhere in the "
Discuss your long lenses" thread there is a Reply with the link in it.
