I would speculate that this is an indication of where the price will end up after the K3 becomes official. Wait a month or so and you may be seeing prices like this everywhere.
I'd like to see it for about $500.

Yes... but I think that I will be saving my pennies for the K3 (maybe when the K3 II comes out).

$500 bucks? These cameras are incredible and worth more than that used with 30k shutter count.

that link in the OP gives the price at 869 and supplied by Great Lakes Cameras

this link Amazon.com: Pentax K-5 II 16.3 MP DSLR Body Only (Black): Camera & Photo gives the price currently at 739 and supplied by Great Lakes Camera

If you search for the K-5 II on amazon you will find varying prices.

Also, check used prices there.. you can get some sub-700 dollar bodies.. for instance, Amazon Warehouse currently has one for 671

Check the price of the K5 that discontinued a while ago. Still above $600. Most retailers have the K30 (also discontinued) at $500 and above. Dropping the K5ii and K5iis down to $500 is nuts. Maybe a K5ii in a year, but not in a few weeks. Their market pattern has never shown that. I bet they keep the K5ii as a model until they develop a midlevel DSLR with the 24MP sensor like Nikon. Until then, I wouldn't bet on the price dropping that much.
