And you can take another $100 off if you bundle it with a DSLR

What's the IQ of this lens compared with the 18-135mm WR?

SMC Pentax-DA 18-270mm F3.5-6.3 ED SDM Reviews - DA Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

I'm not sure they are directly comparable since the focal range is quite a bit different. My wife uses DA 18-135 a lot and is quite happy with it. Focal range of 18-270 is very large and likely to have some compromises but I've never tried it so I cannot really say. If you need a one lens solution for travel or whatever then the 18-270 might be worth a look but I would rather have a two lens kit of the 18-135 and 55-300. YMMV

I would recommend the 18-135mm over it anytime, but users looking to only ever have a single lens might want to get the 18-270mm.

Well, you get a lot of reach, obviously the IQ isn't going to be as great as in a simpler lens

Is that why primes are generally better or sharper?

I'll be short and sweet -

I used both this one and the Sigma 18-250 macro for a week or so.

The Sigma is optically better especially at longer focal lengths.

At $350 for the Sigma and $800 for the Pentax it was a no-brainier.

How are they at the wide end? Is the Sigma way better there too?

How is the flare resistance?

How do you find the macro function of the Sigma?

(I'm thinking of swapping my DA 18-250)

Weather being as it is I really haven't had the chance to use it much yet.

Best I can do right now is this outdoor shot at 250mm.
Note this compressed jpg is noticeable softer on the 100% crop side than the original RAW file but it's the best I could do limited to 900kb...

Addendum: found a few more you might be interested in - these were all just snap shots walking around the house to see what it could do. All shot in RAW with no final PPs done. Also the second one was done at an ISO 51200 so don't take it too seriously. All of these at full frame.

Just read the EXIF for fl.
