Now it comes to the crunch, I'm wondering whether a DA*60-250 would be more versatile than a DA*300...

I had the the DA*60-250, but sold it on because its reach at less than infinity was much less than 250mm. At closer ranges my 70-200, or even my 50-135 gave better magnification.
The DA*300 is a rolled-gold legend of a lens. Fabulous IQ, better reach (of course) and remarkably close minimal focal distance.

If you want the zoom for its long end, get the prime.

Camera Paradise. Being a Hong Kong dealer, I'm suspicious of any deal that seems too good to be true.
Seems to get good feedback on Whirlpool. As usual though, the warranty support is where it would start getting tricky.

I bought an 18-135 from eGlobal earlier in the year because they had the Mack warranties. It was significantly cheaper than anywhere else. Came in a white box, so probably separated from a kit.

Just sharing the DA*300 love. It's awesome.

EDIT: I just noticed Camera Paradise have the DA*300 in stock and for AU$811.59!! That's about $500 below the normal price for this lens. Too good to be true, or is that model lens about to be upgraded with a red-ring soon?

Yes, I noticed this too. Very tempting. I'm inquiring about adding the Mack warranty as it isn't showing up as an option in the drop down at the moment. Shipping is another $55 with insurance too.

Some of the prices on lenses from CRK are pretty amazing compared to the USA prices too. The DFA100mm for example is $675 - 10% = $607 compared to the black friday price of $699.

Yep, that's the price I was dubious about. It looks far too good to be true to me, unless they got a bunch of refurbs and are selling them as "new", or they got one lens and couldn't shift it at a more normal price...

So I got a reply back from Camera Paradise overnight saying they'll fix the website so you can add the Mack warranties as an extra. Which it seems they've done. So with shipping and the Mack International warranty that brings the price to around $900. Still a bloody good price...

That price is too good to pass up, and I wasn't even going to get a DA*300, but at $858.75 delivered (with a $10 discount coupon of CA10GR), how could I resist?

anyone else purchase a DA *300 from the pentax store and find they were on back-order - 2 weeks - which often means a lot more in my experience. Bit disappointing.

Hope it works out well for you. It was tempting but I just don't want to risk it.

If you pay by credit card it's not much of a risk though I think.

How does that protect you from not getting what you thought you were paying for?

That's exactly what it does, reversal is just a phone call away. You deal with your bank not with the merchant.

OK, cool. Anyway, I may be crazy, but I just bought a DA*300 from CRK. At least I'm sure about the warranty!
