Is it robust enough for a k-5 with a da300 or is that crazy talk

It says 15 lb max capacity, so I'd go conservative and think it is OK to use up to 7 pounds.
The K-5 DA*300 come in under that.
I think you'd be Ok if you balance it properly with a long enough plate at the lens mount.

Edit: these look very much like the MeFoto units, I have handled them at a camera store and they are surprisingly solid. http://www.mefoto.com/

dolica actually makes really nice equipment and cost very little, I have place alot of heavy lenses on a tripod and found they are pretty solid.

Their legs are good but their previous ball heads were not up to the task IMHO.
Now they have gone to Arca Swiss compatible heads they seem like an improvement.

I agree crewl1 and the plate isn't as easy to remove as well, but overall they are pretty solid

I own their proline 62 inches aluminum tripod, it's an excellent product. Gets the job done, sturdy, easy to handle. The head that came with it was the weak point, I replaced it quickly.
