Now you can get a free 50mm with the silver K-3. Can't believe these are still in stock!

limited edition

Most buyers of the limited edition before were loyal and diehard pentax fans (fanboys) who love the Pentax brand. That's why it's a complete turnoff if they would be purchasing a Pentax limited edition with a Ricoh logo on the back?!

I don't think it's that. Lots of people pre-ordered and received their silver K-3's, but there seems to be very little ongoing interest in it...

McCoy - fanboys should be happy that a competent company, named Ricoh, saved Pentax and plans to make it a healthy company again. Ricoh's name on the back should be a reminder that a fiscally able company bought 'our brand' and we should be thankful.

RonHendricks says the 600 allocated to Europe were all sold in pre-order. They can't get them in Europe anywhere. In fact, he wrote that Europe was out of stock on K3 altogether for about three weeks - they were getting orders faster than shipments were being delivered. They apparently just caught up.

The Australian allocation of silver K3's (believed to be around 120 units) also sold out very quickly on pre-order. None to be had down here. I suspect they would sell more if they could get them, which is why I'm astounded that B and H don't seem to have moved all theirs . The first batch of the standard k3 also sold out in Aus with many retail stores not able to get one.

I'm still stuck in the old 35 mm mindset, when more cameras were black and silver. I got my first Pentax, an ME, when I was in high school, and bought the black body. I thought it was cool (it was...but i was still a nerd). I'd still probably pay extra for all black, since I like the look, for both esthetic and sentimental reasons.

Well, that explains one of us not ordering the silver...

I wanted one until I saw an unboxing on you tube. Really ugly! The all black with grip, is nice and has little reflection in a dark studio!

Interesting. If you follow the link to B&H and click on the 360 degree view it shows the K-3 in black not the silver. However, it is interactive and has a pop up for each button, display etc. on the camera. Pretty cool.

I was interested in the silver edition.... Is it cosmetically as durable as a all black one?

The K-3 Silver might be moving slowly, but I'm very glad I got one. To someone's question -- yes, the silver finish is durable, but I'm also careful. I absolutely do not use Domke-type straps with those metal clips. Stuffing a camera into a camera bag with a metal-containing strap on it is a perfect prescription for scratches on the finish or the LCD's. Cloth straps only! BTW, I do not use the custom leather strap that came with the K-3 Silver. It's nice, but leather is likewise not my cup of tea. I have my K-3 on a K-01 strap, which is the only Pentax strap having the rough inner surface for its entire length, not just at the top in the middle. It keeps the camera from sliding off my shoulder much better. I also use a wrist leash to prevent drops; this camera is too nice to drop. I dropped a K-7 once and didn't like the experience. R. I. P.
