This is the "better" of the 2 versions (APO/Non-APO). It is a decent lens, not as good as the Pentax 55-300, but it's 1/2-1/3 the cost, and has a semi-macro ability.

I feel very lucky then! When I bought my k-x, the kit with 55-300 was only about $50 more than the single lens kit.

The DA L has always been a very good deal as part of the kit. The Brooklyn bandits have always made good money selling them separately. I paid over $250 for mine in 2010, I bought a white K-x, so no 55-300 kit.
