I don't believe the lens has HSM fyi, but that looks like a good deal!

Drool... if it doesn't have HSM its a bonus. You can put on a sigma 1.4 tc and you have a 420mm f4 or with a 2x \ 600 f 5.6.

I was very upset to see that they (Don's Photo) do not ship to Québec.

So, I have just sent an email to them, pointing out the mention that "We deliver anywhere in North America" and I am asking them to detail their "policy" regarding that.
I will find out anyway, even if they don't respond or give me the same answer as the one they gave you.

For your information , this may have something to do with the same "policies" taken with several "companies" when they open a contest, and they do mention "not opened to Québec resident".
Québec has a stiff set of rules regarding contests and this may well be carried over to some merchants as well.

Anyway, I'll report back when I find out more.

Yeap, there is no HSM on the Pentax or Sony version of this lens. With the new "Sport" 120-300/2.8 DG OS HSM carry a Canadian street price <$3,600, I can see why some dealer starting fire sale on the less popular mount of this lens. BTW, the Canadian warranty on this lens is 7-years.

Time to grab one!

Quebec has all sorts of weird laws and bylaws and policies regarding all sorts of things compared to the rest of Canada. I see "not valid in Quebec" all the time on contest fine print. I suspect some sort of tedious policy snafu made the company selling the lens go "screw it, we just won't sell there!".

I believe Quebec, like Louisiana, still uses Napoleonic Code/Civil Law instead of using the English system of Common Law. That used to create a lot of headaches for businesses operating in LA but in the past 20 years or so, the state legislature has modernized the system to align well with the rest of the US. It does make it so that you basically can't practice law in LA without having gone to a LA law school since no one else teaches civil law and FWIW, LA lawyers are a lot better trained than most lawyers in other states since they have to study both.

Quebec certainly seems much less inclined to integrate with the rest of Canada so I understand how that can be frustrating for businesses.

No it does not. some laws are different (the same can be said for any province) but "weird" is not an accurate choice of words, I would say.

For contests, the only strict requirement is that the company holding the contest must prove they can actually grant the prize to the winner before creating the contest (demonstrate that they have the money to pay for it). This law was created after multiple "faked" or "false" contests where people were ripped off.
