Houston Camera Exchange - Tokina 80-200
Posted By: rfortson, 03-08-2014, 10:25 PM

Houston Camera Exchange has a used Tokina AT-X 80-200 f/2.8 lens for sale for around $450. It's an autofocus lens and looks to be in really good shape. I almost wish I had a Pentax body to put this on.

Anyhoo....if you're in Houston, go check it out. They don't sell a lot of Pentax gear, so go check it out.

I'd been reading reviews on this lens; sounds like a winner! Wish I were in position to snap it up but must wait a while.

Is it online somewhere, or did you see it at the store? Thanks!

Saw it in the store. However, I did see something about them having ebay auctions now. You might give them a call or search the 'bay and see if it shows up. They're an independent store, so they may deal over the phone even. They don't have their own webstore, though. Just a website that tells what/who they are.

I used to go there when I shot Pentax and they rarely had anything of interest, even though it's otherwise a very nice camera store with helpful staff. Lately, they've seemed to make more of an effort to carry the non-Canikony stuff. I'm shooting Olympus now, so it's not like I went to another popular brand. Still, they have a fairly decent selection of stuff for all the brands now.

Anyway, the Tokina seemed like a very good deal, so much so that I briefly thought of buying and flipping it. But I'd rather just tell you guys and have someone here buy it.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check ebay and/or give them a call.

So it wasn't that great of a deal. Thanks for the comparison post. Still, seems like a good price for a fast zoom.

I just picked up an 80-200 from a seller on here, and so far I like it.

I can see how the screw on lens hood can be annoying, you'll absolutely need a double threaded filter to use, but the IQ is pretty comparable to my sigma 100-300
I haven't done any pixel peeping comparisons yet, but that's my initial impression.

I purchased mine for 525 including shipping, so 450ish is still a decent deal. specially when performance is compared to sigma 70-200 or tamron 70-200 at at least 2-300 more.

it's definitely all metal, but was shocked how light is was after reading the reviews on here. Now granted I have the 100-300 and have owned the Bigma, but I really don't think there is a noticeable difference to me over the 50-135 it replaced.

I think either of those lenses >$500 is a pretty good deal!

PS I was just adding to what you had posted. After rereading my post, I apologize. That came across in the completely wrong way. Sorry about that.

I was just going to post this.

Last time they were there, they had lots to play with, and lots of giveaways.

No problem. I didn't take issue with what you said. When I saw the lens at HCE, I thought it might be underpriced by several hundred, but your price showed that it wasn't a steal, but just a good (not great) deal. Your post helps people like me assess a deal.
