B&H is resurrecting this great SD memory card deal. 94Mb/s read, 45Mb/s write for $12.49:

This is hands down my best card. I have used about everything else and nothing is as good as this one on my K30. I just wish that speed was remotely useful on the K5II.

Hi zbrueningsen,

What card do you recommend for the k-5ii series?
Is this card NOT fast enough?

Thanks,

radman

I have a Sandisk and a Sony. Both of the class 10. With the sandisk and my K-5 I can take as many pictures as I want on burst mode. The Sony seems to be much slower. Not sure why.

Hi Sergysergy,

I have read on the forum that sandisk is top quality.
Thanks for adding your experience.

The K30 has a faster card reading ability than the K5 series because the newer cameras (K30, K50, K500, K3) have UHS. The K5 series never got this upgrade. 90MB/s is way too fast for a non UHS reader. Sandisk are typically top notch. This Sony is super fast in a UHS compatible camera.

Almost all SD cards are Class 10 but their write speeds can vary from 10MB/s to 95MB/s. This Sony writes to a MAX of 45MB/s while the top Sandisk can write to 95MB/s. The fast speed helps in clearing the camera buffer and that depends on the camera model. Also faster speeds help in copying pics from the memory to your computer. Slow cards can handle high bursts but it just takes them longer to clear the buffer.

Good to know. I am not sure about the writing speeds but I will check once I get home.

This isn't quite correct: the K-3 is the only Pentax currently supporting UHS-I. All older Pentax bodies max out just under 30Mb/s write speed, which is why you don't need to be too picky when it comes to SD cards for the older bodies.

The Prime M (K-30, K-50, etc.) cameras do have a faster CPU which speeds up image display compared to the K-5 series, however.

As Adam says except for the K-3 supporting UHS-1 the others max out at 30Mb/s. Therefore look at Amazon for lower prices on cards that are relevant to your camera and save some bucks.

OK, I may back off a little, but the k30 is significantly faster than the k5 series in write time. I can put this Sony card and shoot burst in raw for many shots and it records much faster than my k5ii and my k5. There is another discussion of whether the k30 has uhs even though it wasn't marked. Read the conclusion of the test.
