It's interesting how they're calling this new version "HD", while also adding a red ring to the barrel... Oh well, I like the look.

The evilbay vendor is buydig.com who is owned by Beach Camera - an authorized Pentax retailer, and has a pretty good reputation. I purchased my old K20 from Beach Camera.

I own the e-mount version and it is a lot of fun. However, I do not think it compares to the 10-17 except, of course, by being so much cheaper and 2mm wider. If you can afford the 10-17 go with it.

Damn. Missed it. That was cheaper than the older version with a fixed hood and not-so-good coatings.

I had that lens, sold it to someone here last year. It was a great lens, but I seldom used it, and never mastered its use.
It could make this girl...

Look like this....

Like I said, I never mastered it for its best use, but I bet the new owner has! Fun lens, but it can get serious if you need it to!

One of my favorite shots with it...

Regards!

rzarector, I hope it arrives tomorrow, and that it is what you are expecting. While I also ordered this one I ended up jumping on a used 10-17mm that was offered this week and will sell the 8. Hope we both make out well. I would love to see some of your work from the camping/wedding gig, regardless.

Mine arrived today! I only got to mess with it for a few minutes before leaving for my night job, but it appears high quality, and has a nice feel on the focus ring- although I'm not sure how much focus really matters. The new cap design fits over the hood, and seems to click securely in place. The lens looks great on my K-3! I'm a little puzzled by the focus scale, which does not indicate turning quite all the way to infinity- but I believe it does indeed focus to infinity.

Wow, I just realized that this lens has Av functionality! You simply turn the aperture ring all the way down, and press the metal button on the ring to turn it to "A" mode. No green button necessary!

Yes, most all* the Rokinon &c lenses have this. It's a well-kept secret - especially since they show EOS or NI images of the lenses on nearly every website

* It may be that "most all" should be "all" but that's also a secret, at least from me others here likely know of any exceptions.

the great thing about these 8mm lenses is you dont need to focus it!!
just set the focus ring to about 1.5m to 2m and leave it.
Hyperfocus means that everything from about 1ft (if not closer) to infinity will be in focus....

Finally got my copy. I have question about using Av mode. According to the instruction, I am suppose to disable Aperture ring from the camera menu and set the physical ring to the * position. However, when I do that the camera does not allow me to take pictures. What am I doing wrong? I have a K-3.

Edit: same thing on my K-x. If I allow the use of aperture ring in the camera menu, the images taken in Av mode with the lens set to A seems to have Aperture information but always f/3.5 (as expected). So it would seem the contact is making proper connection... confused...
