Yea it seems like my lens is operating in M mode essentially even though EXIF says it's A series lens. I'm looking at the A mode pin on the lens, it seems to be that it is at the wrong place. According to this diagram of the pins on the camera body:

from Features and Operation of the Ka Mount

The A pin on the lens should raise to touch the * pin on the body side. I'm not sure if mine is raised enough to touch the pin on the body. So I'm wondering if anyone else with the lens have the same issue.

Mine seems to operate normally in Av mode, with the aperture ring set to "A".
Edit: Just double-checked. On Av mode, with lens on "A", the aperture is indeed stopping down when I adjust the aperture in-camera. As I open the aperture, the shutter speed goes up as it should, and it makes an identically exposed shot. All behaving normally in Av!

Thanks. I just happen to pick up a 28mm A lens and that seems to operate as expected. Buydig is allowing me to exchange mine so that's the good news.

I bought this exact lens from them. Note that on this version the hood is not detachable. Works great, though.

I meant to say, I bought the lens to which the link goes, and it came without any problems. It is not the same as the thread-starting lens.
