I'm still disappointed and bitter about the current prices of new Pentax lenses after the big price hike of 2012. Before April 2012, you could order from B&H or Adorama the DA 14mm for $699 -- while today's drop to $846 is better yesterday's price of $949, it's still $150 more than the pre-MAP pricing. And FA 31 used to go for $989 back then (compared to today's sale price of $1200), the DFA 100 WR was $600 (today $771), DA 16-50 was $800 (today $1146), DA 50-135 was $850 (today $1246), etc. etc.

See the blast from the past comparison: Brutal Pentax Lens Price Increase: 15-90% - Pentax News - Pentax Camera Forums

I'm not saying that I'm ungrateful for, or not welcoming of, any kind of price reduction, it's just that even with today's special sale prices, these aren't exactly knock-my-socks-off money saving deals... Nevertheless, it's better than not getting any kind of discount at all.

Could it also be possible that the greater discounts ($150) on certain lenses may signal that those lenses could be replaced by HD versions in the near future?

FA 43 or FA 77 with HD coating and quick shift would be awesome!

I think they're only going to change the coating, but you never know! In fact, for some reason I'm more willing to believe they'll add WR than Quick Shift. And don't forget the FA31!

Me, too. On the other hand, Canikon prices are no better and frequently much worse, though I can't say if they had a similar price hike recently.

Disappointed

FYI

Tried to buy a 20-40 and a 60-250 this morning (6-17). Could not apply the discount code for either.

Called Adorama re the 60-250, and was told by "Meyer" that the best he could give me was $100 off...not the $150 in the description.

I'm new to the world of camera equipment sales-- how do these discounts compare to what you tend to see around, say, Black Friday, or other times of the year?

I paid $850 for my 16-50 last Black Friday. It's now $1150 with the coupon "sale" applied. This is an extreme case because the 16-50 is a good lens but has a crazy MSRP.

The non-sale markup on Pentax lenses almost warrants a small stock market system of buying a bunch on sales, then reselling for profit when not. Might be possible to fund retirement that way with all of the waves they make in pricing.

I wish they went back to pre 2012 pricing.. in the end, this drives me more towards the small 3rd party lineup and used market.

I had a mini heart attack a second ago when I saw that Adorama's sale price on the 14mm is almost $200 more than Broadway Camera. I really don't understand why US prices are higher than Canadian.

Let's just say I'm thankful that I pretty much completed my Pentax lens lineup prior to the 2012 price hikes. Today, I might consider the odd deal on a Sigma for K-mount but that's about it. If one of my DA* lenses bit the dust, it simply would not be replaced. On the other hand, the number of high-quality, fast primes that I've purchased new for micro four-thirds in the $250-$350 range is staggering. True, the best, fast zooms for micro four thirds are just as expensive as DA* zooms. But I can get by without them just fine.

Wrong. Code does not work and customer service will not honor the discount.
